I've cracked it!

 

Apparently the FA have something of a soft spot for 'the Kings of Feeder-League Football' (AKA Enfield Town). They realised the potential ruin that ETFC were letting themselves in for by joining The Dark Side (AKA the Ryman 'set-up'). So, at the 11th hour the FA decided to protect ETFC from the evil clutches of the Ryman League.

 

Consequently ETFC will not now be involved in play-offs where the opponents are changed several times in the days prior to the match.

 

They will not have to face Ware-based clubs 4 times a season.

 

There will be no need to travel south of the river.

 

There will be no chants of "Enfield Town is a railway station".

 

.....and so on!
