Ryman League statement

Division Two - 2004/5

At a special Board Meeting held on Monday 7th June the question of which Club should be accepted into Division Two was considered.

The last time the Board considered this matter, there were 4 vacancies and an invitation to join was extended to both Enfield Town and Ilford. However, at the meeting of the Alliance in Loughborough on May 9th it was agreed that 2 clubs would be relegated from Divisions One North and South and this was confirmed at the meeting of the National League System Committee on May 14.

As a result of these decisions only 1 club could be accepted from each of the Essex Senior and the Spartan South Midlands Leagues. The Board did not have an opportunity to make this decision themselves and the decision to withdraw the invitation to Ilford was taken without full Board approval. Having considered all matters the Board decided that the correct criteria to adopt was to accept the Club finishing in the highest place in last season's table.

Accordingly, the invitation to Enfield Town has been withdrawn and a new invitation has been extended to Ilford who will join the Division for season 2004 - 2005.

It is understood that Enfield Town will remain in the Essex Senior League for Season 2004-2005.

The full list of clubs for Division Two are as follows:

Abingdon Town

Brook House

Camberley Town

Chalfont St Peter

Chertsey Town

Clapton

Edgware Town

Enfield

Epsom & Ewell

Flackwell Heath

Hertford Town

Ilford

Kingsbury Town

Ware

Wembley

Witham Town

Aaaahhhh. That explains it, then. No problemo.

The tone and form of that statement is much the same as the 'Official Announcements' concerning the legal costs of the challenge to the Conference re-structuring and the fiasco of the play-off games for the final places in the Conference South. I wonder if they were written by the same chap?

Just another day at the office for the Ryman League.

The thing I dont like about the statement is,

"It is understood that Enfield Town will remain in the Essex Senior League for Season 2004-2005."

What the hell do they mean by "It is understood". I know that it is unlikely to happen however supposing the ESL got sniffy and at their AGM they voted to chuck us out on the basis that we had been "unfaithful".

The Ryman League have treated ETFC very shabbily and the sooner it disappears up its own orifice the better. They have courted the club and then chucked us over for our sister in the hope that the spurned lover picks up their soiled goods.

Oh yeah Ryman you deserve all the opprobium that you got for the failed court case!

I thought Ilford's ground did not have the required Ryman league grading?? From my visits there it certainly seems OK for Ryman Div 2, but why all the business about Cricklefield needing ground improvements before Ilford could move to the Ryman? Foxy - help!!!

The point re league positions is fair enough - but: "The Board did not have an opportunity to make this decision themselves and the decision to withdraw the invitation to Ilford was taken without full Board approval" simply stinks.

The ground is not good enough for promotion to Ryman 1 (ETFC's is). It is bad enough for Ryman 2 though!

This all goes back to the Non League System Rules being changed in mid-season.. if others had kept to them , Ilford and Enfield Town plus of course, our League, would never have been caught in such a myriad of farce , we would have 16 clubs and be getting on with life... everyone knows that abuse of rules, which are there for a purpose can lead to anarchy and indecision - oh boy, we have certainly been victims here !

Here is a copy of a post i've put on Ryman 2 forum:

Quite frankly with everything that has happened I think we are better off out of it. Should the AGM reject Ilford (and to be honest i don't blame them at all for appealing if that is what happened) and we get ANOTHER invite then i think we should tell them to shove it!

As I understand it at the end of this season level 5 gets reorganised, leagues will disappear and I would not put a can of beans on Ryman 2 surviviing. Unfortunately some of the Ryman administrators have shown themselves up to be a bunch of people who are dragging NLF through the mire. THe FA will have noticed that!

Now - if we win the ESL and go up then fine, we go into the Southern league. If we dont there is a massive change coming to Level 5. We will find ourselves with new clubs to play anyway.

The ESL has been good to us and the GREAT MAJORITY of ESL fans will be glad we are staying. The idiots who infiltrate these boards (afternood nickynoc, jubbsy etc) are only here for the wind up. Dont let em get yer!

To an impartial observer, that is a very interesting bit. Who was it who 'withdrew the invitation to Ilford....without full board approval. I wonder?

Any news of resignations from the Bord of Management? Anyone falling on their swords?

No? I thought not.

They certainly have trouble signing letters. Those two signatures on the Nick Robinson letters posted on the website don't look the same to me.

And as for advising a club to resign from its league prior to be accepted elsewhere. Its pretty inept-but we must leave that up to Ryman league clubs to form a view on their Secretary's performance, I think. I think it has been summarised elsewhere where we'd have been left in respect of FA sponsored cup competitions if the Committee had followed that advice. That they had the wit not to do so is worthy of mention.

Do we know if the letters received by other clubs, PBTFC made reference to St. Margaretsbury, advised a similar approach to resignation?

[****!!****]-up or conspiracy? No doubt if its the former Nick Robinson will be happy to attend the trust meeting to expand upon the variety of explantions that seem to have surfaced. I think it might make sense to invite ESL League Chairman, too.

In the meantime, we need to lobby for the timing of the Southend Manor away game-and for no midweek fixture at Hullbridge!

I didn't do a count but we both came and I would estimate that we had around fifty or so in total at Brimsdown last season and all in good voice when we went 2-0 up and were singing the famous 'you're not singing' anthem to you.

If I rememember correctly your home match with us last season was an evening one with the ref having to make a last minute inspection before giving the go ahead.

So a few of our less hardy, reliant on public transport, types could be excused if they didn't take the chance on travelling if there was a possibility of a postponement.

Perhaps Baldrick or someone as numerate of our posters could put us straight on the probable number of visiting supporters involved..
