Tarnished reputation of Isthmian League

In an as yet unexplained decision, the Isthmian League have announced that Eastway Essex Senior League rivals Ilford have been recommended for membership of Division Two in place of Enfield Town.

A “stunned” Enfield Town are to hold an emergency board meeting today (Tuesday) and a full statement will made thereafter.

The announcement was made just a couple of hours ahead of the Essex Senior League’s AGM when chairman, Robert Errington announced that he had been advised about the decision by the Isthmian League.

The Isthmian League retracted the invitation that was made on May 5th for Enfield Town to join their Division Two and invited Ilford in their place, and perhaps the only real explanation for this is that Town groundshare, although no doubt a full version of events will be forthcoming shortly!

Certainly, given the tarnished reputation of Isthmian League officialdom due to the shambolic way they dealt with the end-of-season play-offs and restructuring in general, a very good explanation will NEED to be given for this decision, especially as Enfield boss Jim Chandler has already given an interview on the official Isthmian League clubcall line outlining his plans and hopes for 2004/05 Division Two!
