Why the ill feeling?

Recommended Posts

I enjoy reading messages and participating in debate on this forum. If you've seen how little the SSML forum is used you will understand why I spend so much time here!

Why the ill feeling?. This is a question I have seen being asked by ETFC supporters, and some neutrals, on this forum in the last couple of days.

However, in the same time period, I have seen on this forum and the Ryman 2 forum, a minority (and it is just a minority) of ETFC fans pushing for a boycott of the tea bars and clubhouses of innocent ESL clubs, encouraging existing Ryman clubs to vote against Ilford (who we must still assume at this stage are an innocent party to the whims of the FA) at the Ryman AGM, and have even seen one supporter criticizing the hardworking ESL Chairman for having the temerity to "change the subject" and talk about something other than the all-important Enfield Town! We have also seen these forums being used for an ongoing argument between two ETFC supporters.

I agree that unregistered users should not be allowed to use these forums, particularly as most of the unregistered posts are used to stir things up. But the high and mighty attitude adopted by a few ETFC supporters means that people are more than happy to knock the club in times of adversity such as this. (I haven't yet seen any of the Ilford supporters from this forum announcing themselves on the Ryman 2 forum the way ETFC fans did a couple of weeks ago, for example).

I think that Enfield Town have made great strides in the last three years. I have made many friends amongst both the committee and the supporters, have absolutely no gripes against them or any other ESL club, and wish them all the best for the future, whatever occurs in the coming weeks.

It is just unfortunate that some of the club's support tend to engage typing fingers before engaging brains and end up showing the club in a bad light. I would suggest to these people that they stop biting at the petty criticisms which can be expected at times like this and stop mounting campaigns against other innocent parties in an immature attempt to gain some sort of minor recompense whenever they, rightly or wrongly, feel injustice has been committed against the club they support.

Maybe a bit more dignity from this minority would go some way towards stopping the ill feeling against the whole club.

PBTFC....compare the comments of Town supporters on this forum today, with the bile that has be posted by people from other(mostly ESL clubs)...You'll see where the 'ill feeling' and 'lack of dignity' really is.

We have been making statements today (maybe some over the top), out of anger and frustration....What excuse do all the 'stirers' have for their ignorance.

I agree with PBTFC its not the fault of the ESL clubs and we have made many friends, and a few enemys,it would be a real shame to spoil it all.

Ilford do have a fan. He goes under the name of 'Foxy'. Other than that they're a quiet bunch(?).

With regard to 'announcing myself': The Ryman 2 forum had only just come into existence, I was excited (after skulking round here for several years), my computer was switched on and I felt like making some new friends. So, under cover of darkness I popped over to the Ryman forum, found it was a safe (if sparsely furnished) place and then came back over here to tell the others.

I have since realised that the 'other forum' (as it shall now be known) was constructed in something of a rush. The foundations have already started to slip away and the landlords are only interested in their rent.

Too right my Old Potters Bar Chum, just about every team in the ESL have been brilliant to go to as an away Supporter.

Every club that is successful at any level has to put up with a load of rubbish from other groups & unfortunately too many of our lot bite on it.

We're not all bad you know!.

BTW hope your mob win the Spartan nest year & good luck to Loughton Orient in Div 1.

I was debating whether or not to write a lengthy post, in the end I decided just a few words would be enough to sum up my feelings:

ETFC, Was Sad to see you go and pleased to see you back. Decent people, decent team with fabulous and enviable support. Good luck in this years campaign in the ESL and we look forward to welcoming you all to our new home this season at Tilbury FC.

Best Wishes.

I quite liked the ESL places that I've been to. Lets not forget everbody, that we are all grassroots football supporters, and so should respect each other, teams, players, grounds, club bars, tea stands etc etc. You won't find such a sense of belonging in the professional game as you do with all of us. As the man sung "Lets stick together".

Best Wishes to all

IstanbulPete (soon to return with wife and all, to the green green grass of home.

I would suggest to such supporters that they should visit The Jukebox Forum. This is on the whole designed to engage fingers without having to engage brains too much. There are some threads there which are more intellectually challenging, but there are many which do not require much thought at all.
