England in the Euro Championships

Remember attempting to reinact the Gazza goal with my mate after watching the Scotland game and failing miserably!

Those were happy days. My first year at college, and I used to finish early and get home just in time for the 4.30 game. Think I watched nearly every match of that tournament.

Football all summer and Morning Glory blaring on the CD player. Yeah those were the days!!

I did think about opening a thread based on what you and Zeal have just said....but as you've started...

Footballers and football incidents that you have copied/recreated.

Showing me age now...

As a kid, I used to puff out my cheeks like Geoff Hurst whenever I had a crack at goal...just like this classic picture of him

sirgeoffhurst.jpg

Whenever any of us scored we did Charlie George's - which was to run to the goal line, stop dead still, and with arms outstretched in the manner of Jesus on the cross, fall backwards on the ground.

The Mick Channon "windmill" was another popular choice...

channonatoz.jpg...usually accompanied by shouts of "Ooo Arr, where's me tractor".

I remember one match when we all played with our tongues poking out the side of our mouths, whilst adopting a look of utter concentration. We called it "the Trevor Brooking tongue thing". <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

My mate nearly done his knee in trying to recreate a Alan Shearer volley!

Funniest was one of my uni mates trying to recreate Paolo Di Canio's second goal against Arsenal (1999/00) when he lobbed the ball over Tony Adams and volleyed home.

What wasn't such a good idea was trying to play football on the grassy patch near the halls of residence with the River Thames not far behind it.

My mate miscued and the ball landed somewhere in the murky depths of the River Thames. A few more yards and it may have landed on one of the runways at London City Airport!!!!

Guess What - I missed the Holland game, after watching all the games in Euro 96 I was booked onto the parraell pictures program making course, which I had to do in order to begin my steps to stardom and get my own TV show on Channel 10. I tried to change but they were not having any of it and I was convinced we would lose. Imagine my surprise!

For Germany 1-5 England I was in a bar in Melbourne which was not quite the same as being at home in the Crown

So for possibly the best two performances by England in recent times I was nowhere near my regular haunt with my freinds, which could bode well for Sunday as I´m in Lisbon!

As for the squad, agree with James, we should of promised Martyn the number 1 shirt. G.Neville is the best in that position (unfortinantly) and I think Mills is the only other english right back and he´s a liabilty (and crap). I´d have Bridge ahead of Cole anyday anyway and Terry is a top player.

I think we´ll do alright!
