margate players

You perhaps took some of our good players because you didn't have a squad that could get you anywhere.

I would not have changed any of our team at the end of the season, they were all brilliant.

You obviously have not had the managerial skills or team spirit to achieve that.

Still, it's an objective you can only dream of. We have been there.

Imo all of the Margate players that Gravesend have signed up are above average conference quality,as was Shearer who we were sad to see leave 12 months ago.

i always felt that last season we were just 3 players short of being really really good.

Most of those guys now seem to be at Gravesend ,so add in a sprinkling of Gravesend better players-Moore, Protheroe,Shearer and drury and you have to say that they will have a pretty good side ;and i would be amazed if they do not get to the play-offs at least.

If i was a gravesend fan and they did not achieve that next season, i think questions would have to be asked of Ford.

I kind of agreee. But, I think the National Conference will be so competitive and while G&N did well inpatches last year, I'd argue that they perhaps over-achieved. Given that they have signed / look to be signing some pretty good former Margate players (Manny, Ports, Jay, Jake and possible Rocky) they were all part of a team that at times struggled and at times did well - much like G&N. And Ford now has the task of gelling a new team. That proved hard at the start of the season for CK.

Personally, I'd be surprised if G&N finish as high as last year, although there are enough "worse" clubs to ensure that they won't need to be think too much about the drop.

We must'nt forget though Peter that we playd every game away in front of paltry crowds, had massive off field issues, thought the whole club go go pop;so whilst not quite sharing CK's view that our performance was equal to that of Chester's i do see what he was getting at;and in fairness he was not too wide of the mark.

I do feel however, that every season, whatever league we are in, the pre-season build up is poor, and whilst players are fit, the teamwork is not there.

I trust CK will make every effort to gel a side earlier.

Are you sure that you're not a Canvey fan in disguise?
They said that when we won the league!

Er.....no.
The main bulk of the team will consist of those players that finished the season unbeaten from the middle of February & with a even longer unbeaten away record!

All we have to do is accomodate the new players into that team

Just like the bookies - you're wrong. The club should be more than capable of improving on last season's position. Whilst not expecting the championship, we should have an outside chance of making the playoffs & will be thereabouts at the end of the season.

You described us as having good and bad spells - the main ones being 6 defeats in 7 at the start of the season & 7 draws & 2 defeats later in that first half of the season - for all that, we weren't that many points behind the playoff teams!

The Conference is in reality split into two leagues. The best you can hope for is to finish top of the section made up of the part-time, smaller clubs - which I think you have a fair chance of doing. Dont get carried away.

Disagree, Fleet have put a strong squad together and should really make a move towards the Playoffs. Isn't Stonebrigde Road a little small for the Football League though?

All Conference grounds are eligible for entry into the Football League. The only thing is, they have to be upgraded over a three-year period to eventually include 2000 seats, which we obviously don't have.

Anyway, I don't think league entry is particularly likely for us in the near future, even given the improvement we made last year.
