Q's Best British Album

Recommended Posts

Apparently according to a poll they did, Oasis' Definitely Maybe came top as Best British Album ever. Not sure whether this was a reader's poll or by a so called panel of experts.

Find this a bit surprising. Def Maybe is a superb album, definitely the best in the 90s and whilst it is one of my personal favourites is it the greatest British album ever?

I think Zeal may have something to say!

No idea whether this was a poll by readers or by so called music experts who know f..k all!

Being an Oasis fan I would probably have voted Def Maybe or Morning Glory but find it really surprising that this topped the polls ahead of The Beatles, Stones, Who etc.

I don't agree with it, but it's not that surprising. Definitely Maybe always features well in polls / critic's lists of these sort - there aren't really many contenders. Is the best Oasis album though, without a doubt.

Q is improving , but Mojo is definitely the 'serious' music fans purchase.

Being a sad old git I have never heard Definitely Maybe - but if it's better that Morning Glory it must be pretty good.

You're missing out mate!!

The poll was conducted as follows...

Q writers get to choose.

Only one album per artist (hence Def Maybe and not Morning Glory, and Revolver, not Pepper)

Load of rubbish, of course. I love Oasis, but how their first album can eclipse everything the Beatles ever recorded is absurd, if not downright insulting.

Agree Zealster, I prefer 'What's the story' myself, 'Definately Maybe' is a great album but a bit more raw. The best British album is a toughie for me and that choice is not the greatest.

I would have to look at The White Album, Revolver or Sgt Peppers for that one. In honesty the best album has to come from the best british band and despite all my biases toward a certain band, it has to be a Beatles album IMO.

Though OK Computer would certainly make the top 10!
