Jimbob's book

Recommended Posts

Been described by Robert Newman (one half of Newman & Baddiel) as the fever pitch of rock books.

Now I'm not a big reader, I haven't the attention span, which also probably explains an awful lot of my spelling but I will read this book.

I dipped into bit's last night, a very drunk night watching the man Jimbob in Islington and he read bit's himself (did you know that they got threatened by New Kids on the Block fans) during the gig and it seems very good.

I will use this thread to post the best "bits and facts" from the book as we start the rollercoaster ride that started at the Astoria in August 87 and finished at the Guildford festival in August 97 - 800 gigs, 14 Top 40 hits and a number 1 album later - ladies and gentlemen I give you Sheriff Fatman (well Carter USM)

I read the first 5 pages or so on the train!

The first gig as Carter USM was supporting them cheeky Liverpudlians The La's and them cheeky yanks They Might be Giants!

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer once beat Jimbob and Fruitbat in a drinking compertition!

More later .......

Do you know, when i began to read this thread, i thought it was a book that Jimbob in the Waltons wrote. Now seeing that it was EFMTFTV that began this thread and said that he was reading it, i got slightly confused.

Unfortunately, i don't think i will be too suited to this book, because i have the feeling it is manly about events from the 1990's? That's the impression i got from the post anyway.

On their first Top of the Pops Fruitbat wasn't very happy with the fact they had to mime the guitar playing and the guitars had to be plugged into amps to look authentic, so they left the plugs from the amps on top of them - the BBC didn't even realise

Fruitbat told Dame Kiri Te Kanawa to fk off and stop polluting the air with her awful song (that annoying Rgby one) after she had a go at The Wonder Stuff, Vic and Bob, 2 Unlimited and Tin Machine for smoking in the corridor. They were also asked to crouch down on the next stage while she sung because she didn't like looking at them.
