He does not have a stomach, as the cancer had spread through out the stomach, the whole stomach was removed, he now has a tube that goes where the stomach was direct to the bowel, he needs to eat small amounts often, and he will be on this build up that I refered too.

 

I am told it should not effect him although he obviously can not eat what he likes, in the long term a dietician will tell him which foods he can eat etc.

 

It was either remove the stomach or die in a matter of weeks, he did not have a choice.

Flippin heck, so even without a stomach he can still eat small amounts. will he eventually be able to dispesne with the tube. I hope you don't mind me asking as I am genuinely intersted. My little girl has a gastrostomy but also feeds orally as well.

No the tube stays, to the best of my knowledge.

mark i think you should print off all of the threads re your dad and keep them. what a remarkable journey and experience. all the lows and now the highs.

 

its things like this that when your a bit down with work or your team losing (as we all do) you can read and will bring a smile back to your face.

 

i have been fascinated by this story and im really pleased you have a happy ending.

I was wondering how the digestion of amino acids takes place. It was a long time since I was at school, but I remember being taught that enzymes in the stomach break down proteins into the constituent amino acids, which are then used to build the proteins which the human body needs. What happens instead if there is a tube instead of a stomach?

Maladroit, none of the parties you mentioned though, demensha (maybe spelt wrong) beds on the ground floor, my Dad and the hospital rehab patients on the 1st Floor. Unless the parties are on the ground floor, and they all forgot. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Probably just as well, as I'm sure your Dad needs some rest and relaxation after his ordeal.

It might just be the type of rehab wards I've been on, Mark. They have been orthopaedic ones, which might make a bit of difference.
