Now Telford go too

David Holden

Telford went into liquidation today and will drop out of the Conference.

Their supporters trust will attempt to form a new club and rejoin the pyramid at whatever level they can.

It just goes to show that there is always someone worse off than yourself.

We are not alone!!

You're right David.

I suppose it poses the question what happens if just one more club goes belly up between now and £ June

(Farnboro have an unpaid Vat bill alledgedly)

I'm sure that will not happen, but would be amusing if the conference board on 3 June then plead with Margate to withdraw their resignation or refuse to accept the resignation.

Is there yet one more twist in the tail!!

Absolute shame for Telford. Just goes to show what a tenuous hold many clubs have on existence at this level. Makes the mega bucks spent at the upper end of the pyramid look a bit obscene doesn't it, considering the place and importance local teams have in their communities.

It is a shame that the new Conference set-up now for next season has little relevance to achievement on the pitch this season gone in some circumstances.

Of course, the irony of the Northwich situation is that their ground will not be ready and they will be groundsharing until Xmas themselves.

You have to say though that they at least have managed the situation than MFC so maybe deserve a bit of leniency similar to Margate had.

this is abloody shame and im sure there will be more clubs not only in the conference but in higher leagues going the same way very soon.its all down to the bloody stupidly high regulations now set out basicall down to how much money the chairman is willing and able to spend to prop up the club and very little to do with how decent a team is.they opened up the leagues by new promotion and relegation rules then closed them by making crazy ground regs i think the whole bloody thing stinks up the blues and stick your top conf league up your arses ill be quite happy watching football in the lowar division

It does make you wonder if Margates Board had delayed their decision until tonight would they have made the same decision.

Persumably Leigh would have replaced Telford .

Then at the Conference Board meeting next week it would not have been so easy to justify an automatic relegation for Margate, or indeed replace a team without a ground by another team without a ground_Northwich .

As other posts say, it would then have been a really great mockery of the conference to replace a team in 16th with a team finishing bottom.!!

What if Northwich run out of money and cannot complete the ground-plenty of instances of that happening !Is that what is causing the long delay even when they have stated build?

Yes i am being a bit mischievious because i want conference national football. But they are valid points and i do not think the decision from conference board would have been the same .

Perhaps MFC should now withdraw their resignation?

Having said that i think MFC decision was more to do with funding conference football than any ground matters;and if my head rules my heart it is probably the correct decision.(sadly)

Just shows us all how fickle clubs finances are when they rely on a sugar daddy. Telford, Rushden and Erthlingborough diamomds and even Chelsea. If you have a man who pays the wages what happens when he becomes bored and says no more. The over inflated 2,000 per week Telford (the rumour has it) were paying Lee Mills, equal surly in turn over terms to the amounts Chelski are paying. Maybe the Gaaaaaaaaaaaate have in the long term got it right and are correct in going for commercial developments to pay for the club.
