Back to Wexham - Happy Land?

Recommended Posts

Delighted to see the post from Chris S to say that the STST will talk to the Thornes to see if there is any way back. I don't think any SLough supporter would not be right behind that as an idea.

Does anything need to be done to keep other stakeholders supportive of such a move - Mr Deaner still owns the Club and Mr Anderson could be a valuable ally? I am sure that Chris and his fellow committee members and potential Trustees will need all the support they can get, so it will need a great effort to get this up and running.

Perhaps the local press? Even other local councillors?

I am sure the support will be there if it is a runner!

Best of Luck, Chris!

Had briefing with Gary Chappell from Slough Observer, sure there will be article in the paper tomorrow....hope he gets it right !!!

The Idea is only a contingency plan....and that because of the talk on this forum !

The plan is for the new stadium and business plan for a healthy future for Slough Town FC, but as with all best laid plans , the need is for STST planning a contingency......Thats all....A view I have express directly to Martin Deaner on many occassions. (we have to do it) so along with the talk of many here on the forum, if that will be the wish of the new shareholders, then we have to to see what we can prepare which may include talking or opening talks with the Thornes...if they want to however !!!!!!

The view is that we want to secure the future of our towns team and that is the most important point.....and If Martin Deaner succeed then we are 100 % behind him in his endeavours with the Britwell project and we will be activly involved to see what can be done....

I hope the Observer gets this point across....

its not a bid for a take over for the STST to run the club...its an active view we need a contingency plan in case of ....

Hope to see everyone at the open day on the 1st August......

These are my views and not of the Slough Supporters Trust !!!!

Quote from the Observer forum about a public meeting held a few days ago.

"Interestingly, the other candidates attending seemed to disagree with everything Labour had done and were aiming to stop it all as soon as they were in power on 11th June. "

Presumably that includes the feasibility study. Well worth quizing any canvasers to see what the candidates line on this one is. My guess is that if there is a change in who runs the council, the whole scheme may fall.

I read the article on the back page and I thought the point came across well. I would just like to ask though, what happens after the agreed 3-year groundshare with WEFC expires? There's no way any new stadium would be built, and going back to WP anytime soon isn't likely, so would Deaner pursue a longer tenancy with Windsor?

Presumably Matt he would get a longer lease. I don't know any more than you but if he is going to stick with the club he will find us a ground until the new one or Wexham Park is ready.

But part of the purpose of the STST of course is to be there in case things go tits up.

My personal belief would be that if the Kennedy Park project does not come off, then Martyn Deaner will see out the three years with Windsor, say "thank you very much, I tried my best but couldn't get anything to help you out. I've given you football for the past eight years, you have a go now" and be done with it.

This in turn could lead to a STST push to get us back to WP in the short term at least, but that would very much be a contingency plan should Martyn's plans for the club and new stadium in KP fail.

In that case it really is important to get back on the case of trying to get back to Wexham as a back-up before it's potentially too late. Should the Kennedy Park scheme fail, I'm with Gary; I'm not sure how long Deaner would continue funding the club either. This would leave the Trust in the position of having to pay the £25,000 a year rent to WEFC OR find somewhere else to play - and there's not too many options there.

I do think at that final meeting we had at WP where all the people attended and discussed where to groundshare if WP wasn't an option, Martyn did say he would reduce his funding over the three years if nothing was moving forward over Kennedy Park. At the moment with the feasibility study going ahead, at least things are happening with that (however long it is taking) to maintain Martyn's interest in the club.
