Craig Mackail-Smith.....

Recommended Posts

I'd like to second that, well done to Craig. At least the Daggers can see the potential in him and good for them. He was never given any real chance at St. Albans, just needed a bit of encouragement and some decent coaching (I acknowledge that may be asking quite a lot). Steve Cook and Steve Castle obviously couldn't see the potential.

Similar situation with Jon Challinor, I'm told Steve Castle didn't rate him. Paul Fairclough clearly does. Worrying, very very worrying. Even now, we have a pipeline of players feeding through from the youth and reserves with just as much potential, only more so but will it be recognised and acted upon? Shouldn't think so for one minute. <img src="/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

It's a big jump from the Ryman Division 1 North to the Conference National but I expect he will do well eventually. We may well come across him playing against us in a Capital League game.

I thought loaning him out to Arlesey was a good idea to get his confidence up and a few goals under his belt, unfortunately he decided to stay so it was their gain and our loss.

Money?

I have suggested that we should change the system next season. All players should be required to pay a modest sum to be a 'Playing Member' of St Albans City F.C., say £35 for the season. On matchdays, those who play should pay, say £4.50 match fee which will cover the cost of laundry and that chap's salary for taking the team sheet from the manager to the referee one hour before kick-off. For that, the players also get a jug of beer and the sandwiches.

It has some merit.
