Canvey Reserves?

The only league that have a Reserve side in their constitution are the Ridgeon's League and that is being allowed to stay as it is. The F A are not allowing any other League to take a Reserve side in their Premier or First Division or even the aforementioned league to add to their list of Histon, Cambridge City and Kings Lynn.. and that is straight from the horses' mouth after a meeting of the National League Systems Cttee last week. I hope you will all appreciate my lengthy response, rather than just a straight negative reply. The F A have promised to look into the whole structure of " Reserve's of Leading Non League clubs" in more depth as part of the big clean up and re-structuring of football, so in answer to your question it is NO but maybe I have stirred up something here for the future ?

I don't think it's right for "leading reserve teams" to play in first team football. Where does that leave us when we want to try and win a league and gain promotion? The task is even harder. I know my club would certainly vote against that. I personally think it's false anyway. There are enough "big" reserve leagues around. Maybe they should start mingling with the pro boys if thats what they want.

In Germany, reserve teams play alongside first teams from the third level of national football downwards. It is very unpopular. causes all sorts of unsporting situations, and lowers the average gates dramatically because reserve teams don't have a large fan base.

I don't know how the big, rich clubs manage to get away with this ridiculous system. The last two matches in the Regionalliga (3rd league from the top) are being played after the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga have completed their season. In order to make sure that no team knows what it requires from the last two matches, all teams play their last three matches at the same time as the other matches of that round. However, the reserve teams, three of which are involved in relegation battles, can strengthen their teams for these last two vital games.

The F.A. is absolutely correct in keeping reserve leagues separate from first team leagues.

That does sound a daft system, Colin.

Off-topic slightly, but have you ever been to FC Dresden, or whatever they're called? I went past their ground while on holdady there last year and saw a load of their fans - one was the spit of Bubbles, but a big blond moustache. Strange indeed.

Dynamo Dresden has almost won promotion to the second Bundesliga today. They are three points and thirteen goals ahead with one match to play. I have never been to Dresden, though. Rot-Weiss Essen have already won promotion as champions.

Now to get back to the subject in hand.

One of the incidents involving reserve teams this season was a simple postponement. There were no other postponements that day, but one of the reserve sides managed to get its pitch declared unfit for play, although it is one of the better playing surfaces in the league. This meant that the match had to be rearranged, and that meant mid-week, because the Saturdays had all been planned for regular league matches. This in turn meant that the reserve team had more players to choose from. A protest by the opponents was unsuccessful because the league had to believe the offiicial who inspected the pitch.

Sad. Ive been to Dresden..........Reserves and First teams will never mix succesfully because it's infair on us clubs who support our first team to the hilt. Imagine playing conference reserve teams at our level, we won,t get anywhere and thats not right. Unless they say third fourth or whatever lower down get the promotion places. Bad idea.

But surely it would be better for the players of senior league clubs to play aginst those in a reserve side of a much higher placed club , for example , canvey have a very young reserve side, who have up and coming boys in it, at this moment in time proberly not good enough to play in a 1st team in the conferance , wouldnt it be better for clubs like romford, bowers etc to play them, rather then the same sort of standard players at other esl clubs ? wouldnt it raise the standards in the league ?

No.

Canvey have no first team game - Reserves do. Manager feels first team need run out plays team packed with first teamers. Result is false and against trend. This only irritates sides who are trying to win the damn thing.

I see it happen all the time and all clubs in that situation do it.

Then they should join the Capital League and play against other Conference sides in the same position.

Shall we call it a truce? Jim I always say sensible things, it's just that people take me either too seriously or dont know how to take me.

I'm no different from any other fan, I like a wind up and so do your fans. (Why do your's bite so easily though when they have everything going for them?)

Truth be known, I think a lot of ETFC boys think I am someone I'm not. I said on a previous posting, I have been with the Abbey for over 20 years so don't get me mixed up. And.........I have a big connection with , and don,t start Enfield Football Club, or at least I did and a lot of people at ETFC from before know me. I have no wish to fall out seriously with anyone. I have a lot of mates at your club. If thats not a give away I don't know what is, but I'm not saying this for that. Onwards and upwards and I hope we can join you. God I can waffle late at night!!!!!!!!!
