Margate Football Club has had the weekend to digest the decision taken by it’s members at the recent EGM, not to appeal the decision by the Football Conference in relation to allowing one further period of groundshare at Dover’s Hoverspeed Stadium and maintain the status as Full Members of the Football Conference.

The Clubs Directors have called a Board Meeting for Thursday 27 May 2004, at which they will commence the programme to re-structure and re-organise the affairs of the Club, to prepare itself for life in the Conference South. Every aspect of the running of the Club will need to be examined and particularly pressing will be the fixing of next Seasons playing budget, allowing manager Chris Kinnear every possible opportunity to start rebuilding what may be a depleted squad.

The Directors will be mindful of the views openly debated by its members, that the Football Club finances do not become over exposed and that the coming Season can be funded without the requirement of additional borrowing.

The Directors will also be keen to deliver a clear message, that the Club, with its loyal support, will fight their way back to take its rightful place in the Conference National division the following Season. They would wish the Clubs followers to see this demotion in its true light, as a hic-cup in the very ambitious programme to secure full league status for the Town.

The timing for the start of the Stadium building will have a major impact on the decisions to be taken by the Board in respect of income generated to the Club. The Directors will also be considering the structure of the Board of Directors and what they hope will be the imminent appointment of some new Directors, one of which may be elevated directly to the Chair.

Up the Gate!

Does the wage capping rule still apply. If the club are serious about getting straight back, then they will endeavour to pay the same players the same money as in the Conf Premier.

Some will obviously go, but hopefully with committment all round things may not change much.

But they will need to pay them and not let it run for 5 or 6 weeks at a time!
