CK staying and so am I

Margate Don

Recommended Posts

I sympathise entirely with CK's sentiments posted today on BBC website (copied below). Let's all celebrate his commitment, share his belief that the ground will get built and do as much as we can to support the club as well. Knowing he's staying makes the future feel brighter!

From BBC sport:

Margate boss Chris Kinnear predicts he will still be the club's manager next season, even though they have relegated out of the Conference.

Margate had to admit defeat in their attempt to get Hartsdown Park ready in time for the new Conference season.

As a result they will have to play in a division lower - Conference-South.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I've just got to get on with it. For the next couple of days I'll sulk and feel sorry for myself, but worse things can happen."

He added: "The disappointing thing is that the ground is going to go ahead and be built - which is good news - but it just seems a shame that we've worked so hard."

To be honest, im having second thoughts on watching margate next season these are my reasons;

1/ The club have treated us like [***!!***] - we have had to find out informaton from secondary sources (such as bbc website, council website etc.

2/ Fans V Fans. Most of our fanbase hate eachother, there are too many 'little groups'.

3/ Generally PISSED OFF!

Veaney,

It's easy to get down about it at the moment. I cycle through highs and lows about MFC constantly. In truth, I think it unlikely I would travel regularly to Ashford to watch MFC next season (should that come to pass). But I do want to see them back at HDP and will be there WHEN that comes to pass. The club do seem to have made a real effort recently to inform fans of the Conference decision and EGM meeting and decision so I'm willing to give them benefit of trying to right a wrong. Fans vs fans I've never understood - I go to watch football and everybody else there wants the same thing as me (ie for MFC to win) so we all have a common interest - why should we be disunited? Idealistic, I guess but really shouldn't be that complicated!

Oh and I'm much less pissed off than when Parmenter was still about.

Those fans either come together or they will stop coming cos football is supposed to be enjoyable. The crows will be small but the team and brilliant chris kinnear deserve our support. I'll bethere. The conflict has to stop it just drives people away.

CK has a lot to teach us about loyalty, I think. I have a lot of respect for him, and he has lost much more than we as fans have.

Veaney, I reckon if we sliced you in half you would have Margate fc running through you like the letters in Brighton Rock. You are just p'ed off like all of us and disappointed. I bet the next time a group of guys in blue shirts run on to a pitch, and CK takes his place in the dugout, you will find you feel better already!

As indeed so shall we all. Chin up!

Sad to read about people not wanting to go to Ashford to watch Margate and stating that they will be at Hartsdown when Margate get back there. I can understand the disappointment regarding what has happened - I was gutted and I heard CK on the radio and he really sounded gutted.

If everyone opts not to go to watch Margate at Ashford or wherever and just waits to get back to Hartsdown there won't be a Margate going back to Hartsdown. There is no divine right to have a club there and it is up to everyone to give the support that is needed to ensure that the club remains in existence. I think the people that really need a reminder are those that didn't make the journeys to Dover, Ashford, Ramsgate last year not those who regularly supported the team.

[color:"blue"]To hear that CK is staying is brilliant news. Look forward to his rebuilding the squad for a new campaign, with the chance of having new Heros & Villans in the squad.

One of the positives is the relative ease of travelling - nowhere North of Cambridge & plenty of 'new' grounds and adversaries to visit.

Plenty to look forward to a new level of football. Lets just hope the return to Hartsdown is in 2004 rather than after Christmas & the New Year.

I've only been a regular for 10 years, but remember the dark ages when to finish in the top half of Dr Martens 1st South was an achievement .. and even though we've taken relegation we're far above that level! [/color]

I dont even know if i can afford going to Ashford or Dover every week to watch Margate. I struggled this season, especially while im working most saturdays.

I know a lot of people are in my situation, and can't afford it.

It doesn't help with the likes of certain people smashing other peoples windows either.

We've been dealt alot of negative news over the last almost year it seems now, but its important to remember whoever we are, we all support the same cause, and Kinnear has clearly underlined that TODAY. travelling 180 miles for a match, it doesnt really matter to me whether Margate play at Ashford, Dover, Liverpool, Rome, Afghanistan, cause there all away games, people have travelled to Morecambe to see us, so Ashford should be a walk in the park... so to speak. we're always going to have different fans, its about time we accepted that, and we're not going to all be chummy with each other just because we support the same team. what is important to remember is that we all support the same cause, as i've already said. Wherever Margate play geographically or within the leagues, il certainly show my face and support to the fullest extent to which i can afford.

Same here.

Again ,out of depression mode, and whilst very few games now in west side of Uk,i'm working out that i can get to Lewes,Newport ,Weston-s-mare,Bognor,Havant(think they are in the league);plus a few 'home 'games wherever they may be.

(why is everyone assuming they will be at Ashford-whats been said?

And Weymouth , Dorchester and Basingstoke.

I was honestly contemplating watching more of Forest Green Rovers next year; but when it comes down to it, you go where your heart, not your head is

So many teams, so little time.

Have to say that I am much more positive on CK's news today than yesterday. That piece of news could just be the difference between a team in place to challenge at the top of the table this coming season and one struggling at the bottom. And he deserves all our support for sticking with the club. I note that not once did he have a go at the fans last season even when some were calling for his head, indeed he was consistant in his praise for the fans.

With CK at the helm, I fancy a much changed side next year - perhaps half of this year's players still with us, and who's to say there won't be a couple of old favourites together with some new faces.

Suddenly, after a period of deressing reflection on our state, I'm starting to look forward to next season.

COME ON YOU BLUES!

Veaney-funny how you were one of the people who used to moan about Steve Parmenter's censorship on the old official forum-deleting topics, etc but now you're doing exactly the same thing just because somebody says something you don't like. All your mates have obviously deserted you here and you're one of the people we'd never have seen again if the very worst had happened and we'd had to start again in the Kent League. We've had one relegation in however few years you've been watching the club and suddenly you're saying you might not watch the team anymore. This is what happens when a lot of our 'supporters' have known only success. We've had non-stop success since 1997,mainly due to Chris Kinnear - you know, the bloke you and your mates were hurling personal abuse at during the Farnborough game and who you wanted sacked.Enjoy deleting this.

Veaney. Didnt take you for a glory boy, if you cant take a few set backs in football which is after all a game,God help you in real life. Problems bring out a persons true character, some fight, some roll over into the gutter and get washed away. Make up your mind know son, its your decision. Will we see Veaney the man or Veaney the decomposing mess when the new season starts.

I don't think this forum is supposed to be a loyalty competition. Surely we want as many supporters as possible to watch MFC, rather than restricting it to the "most loyal" 255 who turned up for the Leigh RMI game. Being human enables us to make choices and for MFC to prosper we want as many people as possible to choose to watch MFC. Throwing insults at each other and challenging degrees of loyalty is hardly constructive in that regard. More people are likely to choose to watch a team called "Margate" playing in Margate because it will be convenient rather than because they are the most dedicated fan. Let's try to show some tolerance and welcome as many as possible.
