New Albums

Bought the new albums by Morrissey, Graham Coxon, the Charlatans and Alanis Morissette at the weekend.

 

Brought them into work today, so will let you know what I think shortly.

 

I'm sure you can't wait...

I thought the Graham Coxon one wasn't out til today - so how did you buy it at the weekend? And how is a friend of yours on the cover? I've seen the cover and it appears to be a cartoon style picture.

It was out last Monday. I bought it Friday afternoon in HMV.

 

I never said a friend of mine is on the cover. I said she appears on the album. Which she does.

Oh I see, 'on the album' - any sensible person would have interpreted that as playing on the album, whereas I thought you meant she was on the cover.

 

Never liked Alanis Morissette myself. Are there any other famous Alanis'

sounded just like the Smiths ( no surprise I guess) but when the song he did at the end started, I expected to hear

"I'd go out tonight, but I haven't got a single thing to wear........"

(and if that is not right you know the song I mean)

Anyroad it wasn't the same song but about 99% of it. Is the whole album like this ie Very smiths deriravative

The song you mean would be This Charming Man, nm!

 

Errr.. suppose there are similarities, but as you rightly say, that's no surprise. Any song with vocals as unique as Morrissey's is going to be instantly recognisible.

Don't know much about them, to be honest. Didn't like their cover of Comfortably Numb, but I've heard one or two other bits that sound okay.

 

Probably just this year's novelty act, like Junior Senior last year.

Biggest laugh this week was hearing Jon Bon Permy

had refused the Darkness permision to cover Living on a prayer as " That band are a joke"

like BJ weren't. the curly poodle haired muppet.

Charlatans - like Us And Us Only (the album before the last one) but not as good. Will probably be a grower though.

I enjoyed Hapiness in Magazines, it's not quite the same as Kiss of The Morning, it sounds a bit more 'Blur' like than before, but it's well written stuff.

 

Also just discovered a geeky new toy, yahoo launchcast, you tailor your own radio station online but what you like and what you don't. It's only good for broadband/hi-speed users but I think it's pretty good considering it's free. Unless you want to pay and upgrade, which is a waste. Also discovered Napster's a con.

 

I got the new Gomez album but haven't listened to it yet, anyone heard it and liked it?

 

The new Morrissey album is good in spots, Like 'The First in The Gang to Die' and 'I am Not Sorry', not fantastic all the way through but on balance money well spent. As was 'Back to the Future' on DVD for just a fiver....

 

Additionally, does anyone know of a good vinyl collector, I am trying to help a friend get rid of some of their select LPs like the original Abbey Road LP and the like, if you know anyone links would be greatly appreciated.

Whats the fuss with Morrissey? All the "older" dj's i've listened to are saying it's great to have him back, but i've never heard of him.

I'm assuming he's a geezer out of a band from the 80's or he was a singer from the 80's? Maybe 70's?

 

I saw him on TOTP on Friday night, but i have to say i had to turn it over - i wasn't impressed.

He was the singer from the Smiths, Claire.

 

They were an 80's band that were almost as good as Blue, Five and the Backstreet Boys.
