MATT JONES SIGNS FOR BILLERICAY TOWN

Recommended Posts

Matt Jones has taken on the post of Justin's Assisstant Manger for next season. His career in Non League includes winning promotion to the Conference with Dagenham & Redbridge.

His attitude compliments the positive atmosphere that has been growning down the club and in my opinion is a huge asset to club.

He has known Justin since he started his career as an apprentice with Southend United and chatting to them both on Thursday, I can see that they both will make a great team together.

You failed to mention his appalling season at Canvey!! Oh dear, oh dear!

He was bloody awful for us and his work rate left a lot to be desired.

Saying that he was a decent crosser of a ball but on so many occasions failed to beat the man.

Not one of Canvey's better signings but then again he was ten times better than Jason Dozzell or Dean Greygoose!!

Well he's here primarily for the assistant manager's job - although he is going to sign playing forms as well. I think it's an interesting choice by Justin, bound to surprise a few people I would imagine. According to the Chelmsford site, he was player/coach there so this isn't quite his first job in management.

Good luck Matt, and welcome to Billericay!

Pinched from the Chelmsford Forum:

As someone who gave MJ a hard time as a player at the beginning of last season I must record that as coach he seemed to have a very good and posative influence on the team. I only saw this on match days when his verbal encouragement and tactical sense appeared all too obvious compared with some others.

Seems as those he has some potential as an assistant in terms of tactical knowledge and motivation but I am a little concerned with his lack of coaching/management experience has he very little and its always important to get an experienced assistant in with an inexperienced manager (1 who I still believe is a manager with potential and he could have only learnt from last seasons experience and it obviously wasn’t his fault we went down as he simply didn’t have the funds at the start of the season)

He's a PE Teacher at King Edmund School last I heard, so he's had plenty of experience training up young players as most of the Billericay Squad will be next season.

I must say that he is one of the worst signings I've seen Canvey field, but if he remains mainly off the pitch he might make a difference.

Just been reading some of your comments re Matt Jones. You've just nicked one of our management team and still not happy. For your information, Matt had a massive influence on the team, especially towards the end when he concentrated more on the coaching. Only lost 1 of our last 14 games. I believe he holds the uefa 'a' coaching licence, the highest coaching award available and an award that not many premiership coaches/managers have. Granted he has seen better days as a player, but can claim to have lost out on the conference title with dagenham by goal difference. Something no canvey bod can claim.

Macfoo, there are some of us who know what a massive boost signing Mattie to the club. Some of our supporters are, how we say, a little cautious after last season but that is to be expected.

Having spoke to him last Thursday with Justin, they both appear to have a great relationship all ready as both are looking to boost the squad with some quality signings and get on with the season.
