Struggling Telford United has unilaterally terminated all playing contracts at the club in a desperate bit to cut the wage bill.

 

Acting chairman Rob Cave this afternoon confirmed all of the players had been informed of the news, but refused to comment further.

 

Players today reacted with shock to the bombshell news and said they were unsure where the decision to terminate their contracts left them.

 

Club captain Scott Green said: "I find it hard for the football club to be able to do that. I'm sure there are rules in players' contracts preventing clubs from just tearing them up.

 

The sacked players are understood to have been left with three options. They can either consult the PFA for advice to challenge the decision, walk away and accept it - even though many of them have a year remaining on lucrative deals - or they could re-negotiate their terms with the supporters' trust, in the event of a takeover.

 

Simon Shakeshaft, the PR and marketing spokesman for the interim supporters' trust board, said the trust would now be looking to talk to players as soon as possible.

 

PFA representative Simon Barker was due in Telford today to discuss the crisis

I wouldn't bet some of the players with less commitments (it means moving !) knocking on our door rather soon !
