I have been playing the album all week and where was my head on previous listens....I would agree that all the performances are spot on but listen to Pauls bass playing. Nothing short of brilliant. Even on the songs that are not his he puts in the maximum amount effort in with stunning results. Anyone wanting to play bass guitar should listen to this album. A perfect example of a much under rated art and a much under rated (and recently maligned) bass player.

 

John may have been the "soul" of the Beatles but Paul was the "musician".

Have you heard the double bass playing on the Coronation Street theme music? {I dont know if they've re-done it, as I havent watched the prog for years}. Used to fascinate me....but amazingly...

 

......McCartney WAS ALSO intrigued with the bass line, and it influenced him to adopt a more "jazzy", experimental approach to his bass playing....certainly circa. Rubber Soul.
