ESL - short straw in more ways than one.

Recommended Posts

We have already seen what the continuation of Ryman 2 is going to do to the ESL. Teams are also reluctant to come up to the ESL because of ground grading. The one thing we have not also discussed is the effect of the Eastern Counties League.

The Eastern Counties has no defined boundaries, therfore acts as a carrot for many Essex based sides. Stricltly speaking all senior Essex sides below Ryman level should play in the ESL. However most teams up the A12 beyond Chelmsford an above seem to opt for the Eastern Counties. Halstead Town,Saffron Walden Town, Clacton Town,Brightlingsea Utd, Maldon Town, Stanway Rovers etc all play in the Eastern Counties.

Is it not time the ESL challenged this and demanded set boundaries.

Perfect isn't it, Boroman ! ... All this was set out by the F A at a meeting at Warwick University and submissions made in writing to us with maps etc (I still have them) that I attended over two years ago. I reported it back to the ESL with the thoughts of a great 22 club league in my mind, then Mr Fee visited the ECFL and denied the existence of such a proposal .. weeks later he "vacated" his post .. nothing to do with this shambles I am sure ! I have never stopped pursuing this opportunity and the ECFL and F A both know that but at the moment we are at an impasse but I never give up the ghost.

By the way , nothing to do with this post, Sir, but the awesome White Ensign thrashed Manford Way 7-2 in their Cup Final last night at Roots Hall- they are one of the best sides I have seen this year though I expect that Winchester City may thrill a bit on Sunday ?
