main threats

who do people see as the main threat for the title? i reckon dover, leyton, salisburry possibly even the carrot crunchers. Think the desicion of hendon not taking up thier place will hit them hard with players leaving and crowds falling. Chelmsford won't have the clout and will probably be more interested in getting settled in at melbourne. A few teams in there that we know little about so should be interesting

I think it's instructive that in both the Ryman and the DM play-offs div 1 champions won through - the likes of Yeading could be strong, if they keep their squad together whereas most of the teams who finished near the bottom of the premier divisions will be doing at least a certain degree of rebuilding.

My predicted leading pack will be: Dover, Yeading, possibly Worthing, Tonbridge, Eastleigh (have some money behind them I believe) and, of course, us <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Eastleigh, is that where Le Tissier, was or is?

Allegedly, yes. Big publicity on it at the start of the season, but don't think he actually played for them. There are a few ex-saints involved down there though, Nicky Banger, Kevin Gibbens and David Hughes.

theres certainly a positive feeling, which is great so soon after a relegation. admittedly the relegation is a part of it, as we should be looking for a very high finish, whereas since we got promoted several years back weve always been realistically aiming at a top 10 finish at best.

its a credit to the chairman and especially the fans that the club has so much going for it straight after a drop.

what with ground improvements, some money behind us, and going partly full time (if that makes sense), we certainly have a lot going for us. with a few good signings over the close season we should be raring to go by august, and personally im already looking forward to next season, as our plenty of our fans

whilst it is always fun to speculate about how teams will do with regards to next season, i feel it is way too premature to be trying to predict how we will fare next season. Whilst most supporters are optimistic about their club's chances i think we should start reserving our judgement until we actually see what sort of squad we assemble and how they look during pre-season. surely then it will be a lot wiser to start speculating - at the moment we are in danger of getting a reputation of "favourites" or "big-time charlies" (now that we are full-time)even before a ball is kicked which may be very embarrassing should we not finish 1st or 2nd (which is where most people on here believe we will finish)

...and the year we didn't win any pre-season games, we won our first 5 league games!

One thing seems to be clear, and that it is going to be a very tight league next season. Can't see anybody running away with it, and the gap between top and bottom will be a lot narrower than the last few seasons.

We still have the same squad that we got relegated with though with the exception of Danny Kerrigan so far - How are you all so excited when you saw some of the crap performances we played with the squad we have got and will have next season

Because in the first half of the season we did not have the backing of steve kent

Because last season we had no full timers

Because we undoubtedly have some good signigns to come in the summer, to build on the current squad - were not starting the season tomorrow.

Because we have kept most of the best players from last season (excepting weaver), whilst getting rid of some of the worse ones

And not forgetting, because we got relegated and were playing at a lower level, against worse opposition

Tw@t

Good to see the spirit of optimism hasnt spread everywhere then

Not really - we have 7 of the squad that finished the season - just 4 who started the season (given that the expected squad size is something in the region of 18-19 that's not a high %age)

Of those that are staying, I don't think anybody would dispute that Trott, Sappers, Dormer and Hockton were our 4 best (along with Weaver) players. Stowe hardly played due to illness and injury, so will be more like a new player come next season and we know Henty is a more than capable full back. I don't think we'll be seeing any more of last season's squad, and more signings are expected over the next few weeks.

You forgot the power of positive thinking. Since Steve Kent has come in he and the supporters have responded very well to each other, both wanting the same for the club. Success. Fair enough, our results in the latter part of the season were not always all that due to the performance of the team but we the supporters were not the only people that were disapointed. Both Steve and Justin were too. And you can argue all you want about putting it right by spending on the team from Feburary to April but that "smacks" of a quick fix and what would be the point?

If you read the news on the web site and this forum, you will find examples of what is happening down the club this close season, off and on the pitch.

And one further point, the players we have kept are all players that, with the exception of Weaver and Davidson (dunno what is happening with him), put the blue shirt on and PLAYED!!! Justin has always maintained that to have a successful team, you keep a nucleus of players together. This he has tried to do.

Dufas, if you want to pick up on the optimisim then pitch up this Thursday and ask questions. Steve and Justin are willing to answer any questions and put forward their views to anyone who has a sensible question or query. Both believe in the success of the club and not just for themselves but for the club and more importantly, the supporters, 'cos "without the supporters, there is no club". And that is a direct quote from both of them.
