full time

i see from the echo website your going full time next season..

obvious benefits are fitness and squad familiarity so you would think it would be a good thing.. but on the downside you can miss out on quality players who wont or cant commit themselves full time ..

it took grays a full season to reap the rewards from going full time, and obviously you guys would want to get straight up next season.. do u reckon its a good or bad idea.. would it not be possible to go full time for most of the squad but leaving room for a few 'more experinced' part timers?

The news reported in the NLP was that we will have a core of pro's with some semi pro's making up the rest of the squad.

I believe it is a step forward as I got the impression that the club has had enough of the non league "journey man" that would only be at a club until the next best deal comes up. This obviously restricts any club who is looking forward to sustained success. The club is looking to build a successful team in the true sense of the word, with not only loyalty to the player but also loyalty to the club, team mates and supporters.

Its great and well planned as its 12 full timers with 6 part timers and rather than getting big name former league players who will just up sticks and leaves when the next good deal comes in good young players will come in who fingers crossed will stay at the club long term and will help build the sustainable future for BTFC Steve Kent seems to be planning

I think this is a prudent move. Not sure it took Grays as long as a season to reap the benefits though. They went from being near relegation fodder to being in the top six and unbeaten at home. If they had anything like a decent away record they may well have challenged for the title. Definately one of the better sides last season. If we end up with players of a similar quality then we'll all be happy, well most anyway!
