Worrying rumour

Talking to some Southend fans today they reckon they have signed Lee Boylan for next season.

 

I laughed it off saying they couldnt afford him but they seemed sure about it.

 

These rumours have circulated before and hopefully thats all it is a rumour!

 

Seeing as Boylan is under contract until 2006 they would have to pay a transfer fee for him which would be quite a bit I am sure.

Has anyone else heard any similar rumours?

Every team in Essex has signed Lee Boylan in the past two seasons.

 

But you're right they couldn't afford him, as I'm sure he's on a hefty contract, (for us) until 2006.

 

I was talking to a friend who's also a Shrimper and he says that they wouldn't want Lee Boylan as he wouldn't be effective in the League as he is for us coming up against 6'5" lighting-quick Defenders.

 

I'd wait until anything is confirmed....The only thing that is confirmed is that Scott Forbes has been released.

 

Besides, I think we'd be able to sign a quality replacement with the £60,000 (minimum) he would've gone for <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I very much doubt that if Lee did go we would be able to buy a suitable repalcement as he is such a natural born goalscorer. But I wouldent be surprised if he did leave as im sure loads of higher profile clubs are after him. But lets hope it is all speculation and he can help us battle throught the conference.

Don't see why we'd need the transfer money to be honest... We've got the league money, the Trophy money (So far) before we've even won (TV Right's e.t.c) And.. First off, lee is signed till 2007! second, why would he move to a team on the way down, rather than stay with a team on the way up!

Also, we apparently had some interest from a proper league club before lee signed his extension, and turned them down. So again, why let him go to a glorified E.S.L. side.

I would say; A rumour not to worry about! Southend could not afford him anyway and I am sure he would not want to play for an outfit that has not got an ambition as powerfull as Canvey!!

Spoke to some one today who attended Southends Civic Reception last night. The rumour is totally crap!! Southend will not be signing Lee but they are after another goal keeper and they are gonna sign Chris Armstrong (presently on loan to Wrexham I'm led to beleive). Think he played for Spurs.

So dont think we've anything to worry about.
