Wayne's in a world of his own - Enfield Gazette.

Recommended Posts

Anybody read Wayne's comments in the Gazette this week? If he purports to being an ETFC supporter, then I don't think he has a good way of showing it. He names a certain few players who he thinks should stay for next season and then indicates that some others are maybe's with the rest being discarded.

How can he write such drivel at a time when the team has just won the won league cup?

Leave the team selection to those in charge and keep your negative comments to yourself otherwise the Gazette will start getting letters in response to your so called 'fans' comments. Call yourselve a fan? It looks as though you are trying to make a name for yourself!

I trust you will be talking to the players and telling them that they are not needed? I will point you out to them at the presentation evening if you wish!

Andy, I hear where you're coming from. The way I see it there are different types of ETFC fans. There are those (like yourself) who know the players and JC well and are intimately involved with the day-to-day running of the club. Meanwhile there are also those who pay their membership and travel to home & away matches. This second type of ETFC fan (I would say) has a more objective view of the way the team performs. As they don't know the players they aren't aware of the sacrifices made, for example, getting to training/matches or the lack of pay they receive from the club. Consequently their opinions aren't tainted and centre on the football they have seen and the football they want to see next season.*WHINE ALERT* - Nice as it is to end the season with some silverware let's not forget that it was only a 16-team competition.

Anyway, before I defend what he's written I'd better go read it! <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

I thought Waynes World was a great film and the great thing about it is that it was fun and then so forgetable. Let's hope this is just tomorrows chip paper and like some other non-league guru comments a bit premature.

I better go and read it too!

I must confess I have read Wayes column a few times in the past and found it a great cure for insomnia. Maybe he is just trying to provoke someone to respond.

I thought freedom of speech was still allowed, maybe I'm wrong........Didn't certain comments that went into the public domain become an expensive exercise for a certain football club, last summer?

Anyway I am sure that the infamous coloumnist will be pleased to be inroduced this evening.

Well said Gonzo.

I find 'Wayne's' obsevation quiet funny if a little 'odd-ball'.

In his column he named a few players that he thought could progress with the club, then he said that there are a few that maybe have gone as far as they can,he didn't name anyone....I thought it was fair comment.

I think there is a danger with the management/players/supporters becoming to close,as it's hard to be 'objective in making footbaling decisions when friends are involved....Although i do accept that that closeness does have lots of benifits as well.

Its a team game and the rest of the team allowed waynes few to play and impress him but other people were impressed by other players who just got on with the game and played where they were asked to.

Surely Wayne is entitled to his opinion,as we all know football is a game of opinions and we do not all have the same ones which makes the game so great.

I am not going to say who should stay or go but in my opinion we need a left back, centre back, midfield player and a striker.

I would like Ian cooper and Dave allan back as well

Perhaps his piece in the gazette should be headed "the voice of ONE supporter."?

From the Gazzete.

WAYNE GUMBLE

'Finally, a piece of silverware graces the Enfield Town trophy cabinet for 2003/4

The victory aginst a spirited Sawbridgeworth Town side was just about deserved, although much of the performance could be viewed as a microcosm of the entire unsatisfactory season.

With Town moving into the Ryman league next season, much discussion centred on which players should stay if we are to challenge for promotion next year.

Among the 'must stays' are Andy Hall.Brad Brotherton,Graeme Hall,Daniel Francis,Matt Negus,Lee Smith, and Billy Cove.

A further list of players came into the 'not sure' category while a handful were classified as 'let them go know'.

Jim Chandler must bring in new faces to play alongside the 'must stays' ,and demonstate that he is still the best man for the Enfield Town manager's job.

For too long this season,Chandler has failed to strenghen a defence that has looked shaky and suspect at its heart.

I would suggest, therefore, that a central defender should be at the very top of Jim's summer shopping list.'

I'm inclined to agree that ETFC need some new faces. JC did a bit of a Fergie with some of the players he brought in at the beginning of the season - about 3 of them weren't the best signings ever made.

How about this then.....

Convert Clarkie into a winger (this would take a bit of the goal-scoring pressure off him),

Have Daniel Francis down the other wing,

Play Cove and Smith up front (they seem to have a good understanding),

Find another midfielder to play alongside Carey Wright,

Either get Dave Allen back from Ilford or play Digby at right-back,

Maybe play Adam Gant & Graeme Hall at the centre of defence,

and hopefully have Matt Negus return at left-back.
