Johnny Ridout

Recommended Posts

There is some suggestion that the Cup Final was Johnny Ridouts last game and he is hanging-up his boots.

Johnny has been a class player for the town, not always available because of work commitments but his presence in the midfield has been a joy to watch.

Thanks Johnny, hope you and your family will remain involved at the town in other ways.

It was more than a suggestion. All of the ETFC players shook his hand when he was substituted during Monday's cup final. They all knew it was his last game.

When you go to Brimmo for tonight's presentation night don't forget to stop at a newsagents and buy a Gazette. There's a good article about John and his retirement on the sports pages.

I haven't been able to get my Gazette yet but John has been brilliant.

I remember being down at a training night last season when Peter (sadistic person that he can be) got the bleep test out. At the end step 18 or 19 there were two left in it Johnny Rids and young Bradley Poole - Probably the oldest and youngest in the squad at that time.

Well done John, a true legend of football in Enfield ,and an great role model on how a footballer should conduct himself.

I still recon John had another season in him,as i feel his last half a dozen games have been the best of this Town career.

I still hold myself (very slightly) responsable for him playing for us.As i mentioned (on the old forum) well before ETFC was formed ,that i would love to see Rids and Paul Turner play for the new club (more out of hope than expectaion).... I'm glad he did because he really helped the club establish itself, and has left it in a great position to progress.

Where are we gonna get another John Ridout from?! I'm sure we could've got another season out of him. Nevertheless, he's done us proud.
So, is Carey Wright the new Rids?

The youthful enthusiasm of Daniel Francis and Carey Wright in midfield needs a Johnny Ridout character to learn off, work alongside and get the best out of them (they are good though).

You're right. I don't see why Rids can't play another season. He'd provide a calm head and could let the youngsters do all the running round. I can think of no better role-model in the non-league game for the likes of Carey Wright to learn from.

I think we need another player of Rids' experience for next season. Where is JC going to find one of those then?

John Ridout is an excellent player who I have had the pleasure of watching play football for a number of years, both at EFC and ETFC. He will be sadly missed but what a tally of medals to retire with!!!! Nobody can accuse him of under-achieving.

I don't think I have ever seen a better header of the ball - for a midfielder of average height I never ceased to be amazed at how he jumped early and seemed to "hang" in the air!!!

Fantastic servant to all the clubs he played for -thank you for many happy memories John.

I'd second that, Southport! Johnny has been inspirational again this year, particularly to some of the younger players. If he'd been available more often I suspect our league position would have been higher. I'm sure he could more than do a job for us in Ryman 2.

But if you have decided to go, JR, thanks for the memories. A loyal servant to both EFC and ETFC (as well as others, I know, but I didn't see you then)- but more than that, a player who's got better and better over the years. A tough act to follow...

I agree with all the above sentiments. Rids was/is a class player, and an exemplary footballer on and off the pitch. I always felt more comfortable when was playing, as he had that ability to put his foot on the ball, look up and select the best pass... and what a pass it usually was.

Well done John Ridout, and thank you.
