club to come knocking at our door! one of our 16 year olds was approached to sign for the daggers after a recent game.

not sure if he has decided yet but surely it would be a good move for him. a quality player.

it will be difficalt for our manager to hold onto our squad as there are a few other clubs are sniffing aroung.

come on mr chairman and board get the contracts out!

All's fair in love and war... (well maybe not the love part) but you know what I mean. This is one of the many problems you have to face if you're going to be a successful non-league club.

Just look at Canvey Island - their squad was savaged season after season as they progressed through the ranks.

However, I'm hoping that ETFC players will see that we have the fanbase and the potential to be a big club - and that will be enough to ensure they want to stay with us.

But then... money talks.

If they aren't paid anything now than it shouldn't be expensive to hold onto them. How about starting them on a packet of salt & vinegar Monster Munch each week?! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Technically, you can put a player on contract for a token payment (e.g. £10 per season) as long as the player agrees. If they are not getting paid anyway and want to help the club in the long-term, it can be very useful to put them on contract. The only problem comes if these players want to play Sunday football as well.

What like Bradley Brotherton, thats quite a big name......or Edward Sherringham. Seriously as far as I know all the Abbey boys are staying at the club, no new signings as yet. We are quite content at the moment and the club are concentrating on making ground plans whilst the Manager gets on with his job.

surely that is the point of the contract to stop them playing in Sundays etc.

What I meant was that if a player wants to carry on playing Sunday football, it is difficult to persuade them to sign a contract. Then you run the risk of these players going to other clubs without financial recompense.
