On balance, I think we'll find Ryman II a stronger league. Not much to choose between the sides at the top of the leagues, but I suspect that the teams at the foot of the ESL would struggle against their opposite numbers from the Ryman-except EFC that it!

Can anyone maybe do a chart of matches played this season against ryman opposition by esl teams and see how we fared?

History would seem to suggest that most ESL clubs that have progressed have gone on to instant promotion in the bottom division of the Ryman - Ford United, Great Wakering & Leyton to name but three. In fact, only Witham Town seem to have struggled to do anything at Ryman League level. It would therefore seem that Ryman 2 is, at best, on a par and probably not quite as strong as the ESL.

 

As for those wanting better grounds in Ryman 2, I have three words for you - Old, Spotted & Dog.

But, with ETFC (& Ilford? & St Margetsbury?) moving to Ryman 2 you'd have to say that Ryman 2 is now stronger.

 

Maybe this 'move' to Ryman 2 is all an elaborate bluff to lure our main challengers out of the ESL so we are free to gain promotion next season (remember, LeagueChairman says no-one's resigned from the ESL yet)?!

Consider also the nature of the competition in which these R2 v ESL games were played. How interested were the Ryman clubs in the Thameside Trophy or even the London Senior Cup, in reality?

 

Having said that, I doubt that there is any real difference between the two leagues.

 

What's more, if rumours are to be believed, no-one knows who is going to be in R2 next season anyway.

why would ryman 2 clubs be less interested in those competitions than esl clubs?

Sorry, Pinnacle, you're right, I meant the clubs from higher divisions like Ford that probably fielded weakened sides.

 

We beat Harrow - away - in the Mddx Senior Cup last year, and only lost to Hendon 1-0 the year before that.

I can tell you both Met Police (R1S) and Ford Utd (RPrem) were both def interested in the London Senior Cup. It was quite interesting to see Met Police officials welcome the club with open arms but with one exception turn their backs as soon as the last penalty went in.....oh yes they were interested I can assure you. As far as Ford goes I could not say if they put out a weakened side but to be fair it was men against boys on the night.......pinnacle might not agree though..
