Gibbo's post-season speech

Recommended Posts

The thing is, he was saying that there was a load of cr@p and [***!!***] being spouted regarding certain rumours about the reserves. I've heard only one such thing, and I've been assured that it's not a rumour but the "truth" - one of the reserve coaches/managers has resigned because of the proposed move to a different league. Someone's even posted it on here. As far as I can make out that's that - where's the cr@p, where's the sh*t? Maybe's he referring to the outside loos? Those pesky leaves are a darn nuisance blocking the drains up!

If you choose to call it a speech, fine. I would describe it as an abusive rant and an unjustified one at that. It was an insult to the intelligence of everyone attending the presentations and he had clearly lost it. He has got to realise that a lot of people care very passionately about this club and when they see an injustice occurring, they are going to voice their displeasure, whether he likes it or not.

As far as the bad language is concerned, I am very puzzled over this. When John Gibson first took control of the club, I understood that one of his first main aims was to turn it into family club with family values, attracting the kids etc. Well, he certainly scotched that on Saturday night.

My final point. If he is the Chairman, why wasn't he presenting all the awards?

John Gibson can speak for himself although he doesn't seem come on here often so I'll offer a view but only on your final point, Woody.

The Supporters Club voted on PotS and GotS so it seems logical to me for that Chairman of the Supporters Club chap to present those two. The Reserves awards were also of an 'in-house' nature, Players' player, Manager's Player etc. so it also seemed logical for Kevin Blande to present those to t'lads.

Clubman of the Year is an award made by 'The Club' and I thought that it was appropriate for The Chairman to present it.

How is the "Clubman of the Year" calculated, AFF?

I thought Knocky would be in with a shot. He works on the gate, and although gains free entry, he gets a limited view of the game. This year he took part in the several sponsered supporters club events. Perhaps he would have been a better choice.

Discuss.

Do I look like a policeman, Laz? I don't know the answer to everything.

In the past, I recall that the award of 'Clubman of the Year' has been the preserve of the chap who used to drive the red tractor and it has gone to one of the happy band of helpers who do things at t'Park midweek. I recall that Geoff Brown, Knocky and Peter Hindbest have won it in recent years.

I don't know anything about the criteria for this season, however. He's a nice chap, that John Feneelleeny.

Sorry, AFF, can't agree on either.

Both should be presented by the top man, possibly in conjunction with the SC chairman for the first 2 and Kevin Blande for the other 3 but he should make it his business to be involved. Happens at most other clubs.

Ah, the 'in-house' nature thing. It's all one club, AFF, isn't it? All for one, one for all, all working together for each other in the same direction......... so spake the chairman on Saturday. Yeah, right. When it suits.

Well Woody, we shall have to agree to disagree. If this is the biggest difference between us, now and ever, we can get along fine!

Without wanting 'the last word', I have to clarify one point in your posting.

In my view, it is, indeed, 'one club'. My reference to 'in house' was not intended to suggest otherwise.
