Granted, we won a trophy this season, but let's not forget it was only the league cup so more of a consolation prize really. I think JC made a few dodgey acquisitions at the beginning of the season (the Acquah brothers for example) and this is why ETFC finished 4th in a 16 team league. He only has himself to blame for setting such high standards over the previous years. Some good performances in the Vase & FA Cup but certainly some additions to the squad needed over the summer.

Will JC ever get bored of using wing-backs?

Your comments are way too harsh. Yes, we haven't had as gooder season as previously. However, no team has it their own way all the time. The effort Jim has put in this season has been excellent and in difficult circumstances (Ilford attracting some of our better players, the pitch etc). Jim has also been down at the ground digging at getting the ground up to Ryman B standard. He is a credit to ETFC. AS far as the League cup win goes. Yes, of course the league is more important but other clubs have improved and it's been a real close thing. However, the League Cup is not just some mere consolation. To end the season with no siverware would have been miserable. We have won the cup and let's enjoy it!

Don't get me wrong ETFC have done well. My only complaint is that ETFC haven't continued the improvement on the pitch of the last couple of years. (To be fair though the only way we could've improved would've been for us to have won the ESL, reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup and the final of the Vase!). Let's also not forget that ETFC did win the first ever Enfield Derby.

Maybe I expect too much too soon, but then JC has set himself such high standards with the achievements so far.

agree with Happy (for once) bear in mind we missed on being considered for promotion by 7 goals.

Jim is a top bloke, those that have seen his efforts on physically building this club will understand how much we owe to him. 6 triphies in 3 season is a credit to his management.

roll on next season.

I think Jim knows what went wrong this year and has said he won't be making the same mistakes next year. A big man indeed.

So we're not playing any 'home' matches next season then?! <img src="/images/graemlins/wurm.gif" alt="" />

Come on Gonzo you have criticised our league position but only three defeats is not bad, especially when you consider how the season started (including the friendlies). All in all I think this has been a successful season.

I note that Leyton are bragging about three promotions in three seasons. Wasn't the move to Ryman 2 a sideways move or am I missing something?

I had a short discussion with someone, cant remember who, as to whether the players will be unhappy that we dont go into Ryman 1 and will ETFC be able to keep the squad together? It seems to me that as we didn't get promotion it is only the players that can take the blame they showed yesterday that they can do it when it matters but were didn't realise that to win a league it matters every week.

What does Foxy mean in the comment "See you next year"? I thought he was an Ilford fan?

Only 3 defeats but some silly dropped points along the way - brentwood 4 ETFC 4 to name but one. Unfortunately it's positions that win prizes. Going from Champions to 4th place doesn't indicate a successful season on the pitch does it?

I believe that Leyton's move at the time was a promotion of sorts as it wasn't possible to go into Ryman 1N from the ESL then.

Ilford have also been invited into Ryman 2. From what Foxy says it seems they have also taken up the invite.

I dunno why you bother supporting "The Town". All you ever do is WINGE, WINGE, WINGE.

GET A LIFE MAN !!!

Actually I 'whinge'. So, I'm not welcome at "The Town" unless I continually applaud everything done by all the players, the manager and the board?! This is a club run by supporters is it not? And as such surely there is bound to be a diversity of opinion about footballing and boardroom matters. I pays my money to watch the matches and then I come on here and say it as I see it. Equally, you are entitled to call me a whinger. This is a fans' forum with the purpose of permitting discussion amongst fans. Wouldn't it be boring if we all agreed all the time?

Mr Gold's comments in the ETFC programme several weeks ago I think clearly demonstrated that there are some at the club with a 'you're either with us or against us' mentality. If I can't come on the forum and pass reasonable (albeit unfavourable) comment on the club or players then perhaps the club should aim to become as inclusive as it claimed to be on inception.

You carry on saying what you think Gonzo, if it wasn't for the Victor Meldrews amongst us then this whole game would be a lot less fun!.

That said I disagree with you, considering the problems we had at the start of the season, Jim & the team have worked wonders to not only finish fourth (How about more credit to the teams that finished above us, they deserved it after all) but to win another pot was a great achievement.

Jim has continually proved himself throughout his entire career, from his days as the manager of the reserve team at Enfield FC where he won everything going, to being the first team manager with Enfield FC where he masterminded our FA Cup glory against Chesterfield and Preston North End. Had it not been for Jim, then we would've been relegated from the Ryman Premier well before the idea ETFC was thought up.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the first season where his tactics haven't been quite right - and we still finished fourth and won the league cup.

You can never judge a manager on one season, and it seems incredible that people are even suggesting we should look for a new manager. Jim is the best we could possibly have, and he has given so much to our club.

Lets just look forward to next season and new surroundings, eh.

Err,...shouldn't that be 'two'?

There's always one isn't there! Ok, Ok, please read, "Only 3 defeats but some silly dropped points along the way - brentwood 5 ETFC 5 to name but one INSTANCE."

While you're there AFF, I see it's been fairly 'lively' at St Albans this season with fans and players not always seeing eye to eye. Which division are St Albans going to wind up in next season?

Hi Gonzo.

Actually, I preferred "....silly dropped points along the way, ETFC 5, Brentwood 5, to name but two."

Yes, never a dull moment down at Clarence Park, Gonzo.

To answer your last question first, the football has been cr@p for most of the season but t'lads have played better over the last few weeks. Beating Canvey Island 4-1 at our place 3 weeks ago was a small highlight. Anyway, we limped up from the relegation zone to finish 19th and into the play-off positions. Tonight we visit mighty Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road for something larger than a small game. The winner will play the winner of Bedford Town vs. Hitchin Town who also play tonight, on Saturday. Away at Bedford or at home to Hitchin. The winner of that game will play in Conference Division 1 South next season, the losers will play in whatever the top Ryman division is going to call itself.

Off the pitch, it's been interesting but you know what it's like at Non League football clubs, especially when it's not going well.

I'm following the fortunes of your old chum Lee Harding at Braintree. The Ryman League General Forum is quite entertaining. It's a shame that it didn't work out with Graham Roberts. Some of the biggest names in football have applied for the post, apparently. My money is on Claudio Ranieri.

We haven't given up hope and we're still looking for the red tractor, the tea-urn and the carved pumpkin. Keep your eyes peeled in your travels.

Good luck to ETFC for next term in Division 2.
