Ryman 2 to disappear

Recommended Posts

From another (non league guru!)

In the long term, I expect the Isthmian Div Two to disappear as the 15 step 5 leagues reduce to 12.

At the end of next season, they are one of the 15 step 5 leagues challenging for 8 promotion places to step 4 (only champions will be eligible). Have a look at the restructuring part of my site at www.tonykempster.co.uk under promotions from 2004/05

So 15 league champions; but only 8 can get promoted.

do we know the criteria?

will only champions wil be considered?

come on, I agree at face value R2 looks a good option; but can we consider it before we rush in?

And when did he write it Southport? The good thing about free will is that people can change the perceived future.

A week in politics is a long time and football is riddled with politics, hearsay and changes in position in order to obtain some political advantage from it at a particular time.

It gets lost in the translation.

I'm sure there will be another prophet of doom next week.

I'm still not worried about it. We are on a journey to where we want to be. If we don't step outside the house we aren't going to get to work! Football has risks and we may be making a mistake but this is a risk I'm prepared as a fan to take. We don't have the money of some clubs so we might not glide through this league but the notion of progres is as important as actual progress.

Cleggy, The football club has the backing of nearly all the fans in excepting the Ryman's invitation.

My only slight concern,is that i have a feeling it may be harder to win Div 2 next season, that it would have been to win the ESL....But as you say 'we must take chances'.

you have been working too much

...outside the box
...expand the envelope
... let's park that

Any way MR Cleggy, let's be clear we all want what is best for our club, so who carried out and presented the

... risk assessment?

So it is important that Enfield Town puts in a challenge for the Ryman 2 championship next season, and that means strengthening the squad, which will not be easy without the money of 'some clubs'. I assume that talks were held with sponsors during the deliberations.

I think it will be tougher to win as I assume both Ilford and EFC will be joining us - that's 4 tough games for starters. We need a couple more intelligent footballers a la Lee Smith. There are a couple of players in the ESL we should probably approach.

I think we really would've struggled in Ryman 1 next year without alot of squad strengthening (which we don't have the resources for yet). So bring on Ryman 2!

There is a serious point here, that ST has raised, and tat I touched on in another thread last week.

Yes it is a risky business going into Ryman 2, the future of which is uncertain, but indeed it may well be the best option. It may not, however. Yes, most supporters appear to favur the move but is everyone aware of all the implications, all teh pros and cons? Some supporters may assume that this is an effective promotion, for example.

I am deeply concerned that as a supporter's owned club this major decision has been taken without any consultation with the owners, the shareholders, the supporters. All we have had is a brief "club statement" telling us what has been decided for us. Not who by, or why, or on what basis.

At the very least we should have a full statement explaining why the decision was taken, and what was taken into consideration.

The plan was for the Ryman 2 to go back to the same level as the ESL - however it can only fully vanish if the other leagues can take the teams, in maybe expanding.

This may not happen for 2 or 3 years at least - and even then it will be open to debate by the clubs / leagues involved.

Plan can change - and don't forget surely it is better to be a league that is looked upon by others to be at a higher level even if it is not - for example some players/fans may be willing to come to a Ryman club, but not an ESL club (it shouldn't make any difference, but I bet it does to some)

No - I am a fan of the league - however if you were a player would you want to play for a team in the Ryman 2 or ESL, given the fact that you would also wish to play in higher divisions.

Give it 2 or 3 years and probably half the leagues we know today, will probably vanish or merge or rename.

The important thing for any team is to be in the league that they feel will give them the greatest chance of promotion at the end of the season - hence the reason why some wish to be in the Southern rather than the Isthmian or vice-versa.
