ILFORD 2 APSA 0

Recommended Posts

How different is it watching a ESL game that ETFC aren't involved in.?

Turned up at the groung expecting a decent sized crowd and some atmosphere.....There was no more that 20 paying supporters in the ground, and only the sound of the Ilford players shouting through out the game, broke the silence.(i only saw two other ETFC fans there).

Ilford scored at the start and end of the first half, killing the game off.

How out of place does Dave Allen look in red and white hoops.??

Ronny Watson was his usual surly self...even some blatent over-praising from the bench didn't help lift him out of his slumber.

If Fenny could play the game as well as he talks it,he would be world class.....He virtually reffed the game from start to finish....not more than a minute went by without him instructing and berating the officals.

The officials were awfull though, letting a two footed lunge by 'Sir Ronald' go unpunished in the first half ,then sending of the APSA number 11 after bashing into Ronny whilst challenging for a header.

That incident summed the afternoon up for me.....After that challenge the Ilford trainer came on to treat Ronny, and the ref seemed to be taking no action....Fenny then has a qiuck word to the lino about was he thought of the challenge...the lino suddenly remembers he's seen the incident and instructs the ref to send the player off (a booking would have been harsh).

At this point Fenny skips about wildly clapping his hands ,like he's won the lottery.

Make no mistake Ilford are well organised and if they keep the side together will finish top 5 in the Ryman next year....BUT i didn't like the under-current of animosity that suurounded the team, the sledging that went on towards the APSA players and the constant swearing that when on throughout the 90 minutes.

The game ended in 'park footbal fashion' when Ilford's No3 saw that two Ilford subs were about to come on ,and run off the pitch into the changing rooms shouting 'i'll go off/i'll go off'....the ilford bench had no intention of subbing the No3 ,and were not best pleased......to cap it off,the last APSA sub played the game in the wrong coloured shorts.

funny what you get up to when ETFC not playing

went to Cheshunt, also saw a couple of ETFC supporters, and Beardsley.

rest assured the ref was bo££ix. gave handball the wrong way, was persuaded to book a player after the oppostion complained; and Cooper falling over in the box.

As for the lino they did not know the off side rule applies when the ball is kicked

what did strike me was the difference in class between Cheshunt and Barton Rovers. ETFC could compete on level terms with mid table Barton; but Cheshunt played intelligent football and would breeze past the current ETFC team

I went to see Waltham Forest beat Enfield, the ref had a very good game far better than we get.

Waltham Forest deserved to be more than 3-0 up at half time before the totaly justified sending off of a Forest player evened the game up.Three Forest substitions saw them completely lose their way allowing Morgan to score a pen and pull another back deep into added time, between their goals a Morgan free-kick had been dropped by the keeper and an enfield forward had headed across an open goal.

There was a few Towners here as well.

An Ilford player trying to influence the referees decisions. Isn't that what most ETFC fans do for 90 minutes. The only diference is Ilford haven't got the vocal support of the pitch.

So are we saying its ok for fans to voice their opinion, but the players just keep their mouths shut. It's part of the game and from what you say it sounds like Alan Fenn was using his experience something that you probably lacked this season at vital times.

Southport Towner said that the Cheshunt team would breeze past the current ETFC side. Mr Fenn didn't seem to have that problem when at Leyton.

Sore losers!!!

You're right that Alan Fenn was using his experience to good effect - officials need to be better than to be hoodwinked by that sort of thing though. He buttered up the lino in the first half by telling the lino the ref was useless, he was much better than the ref and he wished the lino was reffing. Some linos would have reacted by flagging and getting the player booked for his insulting comments about the ref - this one had a broad smile and said 'thanks very much'. Not sure what he then said to the lino during the second half incident - but it certainly seemed to be that conversation that prompted the APSA player to be sent off. The way Fenn reacted, I don't think even he could quite believe that he'd just got APSA's main threat sent off simply by saying something to the lino!

If Desailly's reaction to that Monaco player being sent off was unprofessional, Fenn's reaction yesterday was just ludicrous.

By the way, I know some of you are boycotting the NLP but I always said it was a quality paper. Today's copy shows yesterday's result as Ilford 0 London APSA 3 and they've printed a final league table showing Enfield Town in third above Ilford. I can live with that....

Father Jack - well said

old fatboy obviously isn't used to seeing games where there are more than 40 people, including officals.

watch any game fat lad and see the crowd (crowd is a lot of people in case it's not in ur dicktionary) try and influence the officals

Ilford's No 3 was Glen Golby - quite a funny incident really, if a bit 'Mickey Mouse'. He darted off the pitch at the opposite end to his Manager and ran straight towards the changing rooms with the Ilford Manager shouting 'Don't let him in, lock the changing rooms' from the other side of the ground. Mr Golby looked a bit sheepish when he had to come all the way round to the bench, after getting changed, to collect his valuables!

Morning all.

On saturdays events...

I was just as confused when Glenn Golby decided to run off in the direction of the dressing rooms instead of going to the dug out. Only after speaking to the manager was I informed that he was told he was going to be substituted.

Thats why he went straight off.

Re the sending off.....

The London APSA No 11 constantly berated the Ilford back three and was late in the challenge time and time again however I didn't think his sending off was correct. It was a 50/50 ball and he caught Ronnie.

As for Alan Fenn getting the guy sent off....well I think he's not that type of player but so what if a bit of gamesmanship was used.

It happens from international level to schoolboy level so I think its harsh to over criticise him. I understand he has only been booked once this season. Its obvious there is a mutual respect between himself and the officials so why not use this to his advantage...?

The fella has been imense for us. But then so have the other three at the back: Glenn Golby,Dave MacCarthy and Alan Milton.

I understand Fenny has now retired so you wont have to put up with him next season.

Thanks for the clarification, Foxy!!

Believe it or not, I've got nothing against Mr Fenn - I don't think he did himself justice during his time at ETFC but I accept that he wasn't given much time either. He's definitely one of the game's talkers and I think that's always going to be difficult in a back 3 where one of the other Centre Backs is the Captain.

Sorry to hear he's hanging up his boots - then again, at least we won't have to play against him next year!
