Lose Hodgey, Regain Sammy?

Although Sammy is on contract, it would appear that BW chairman Danny Hunter is seriously slashing the playing budget next season.

Should Hodge go to either Yeovil or Oxford with a successful trial, would we welcome Sammy back should he become available?

After everything Sammy said about not liking Browne it was funny to see him follow him to BW?! Yes he did have good reasons to leave Slough but he did get into bed with the devil and now he's stuck on a 2 year contract at a relegated club that has hardly any fans.

If Hodgie does go(good luck to him!) it would be disasterous for Slough but i think we could recover. Boot, Miller and Seedle are all capable but i personaly still believe Sammy would be a good asset for the club.

It all depends on what Eddie has up his sleeve???

Winston was quality, but this season has showed me beyond any doubt that Hodges is that much better in every department. If we lose Hodgey then it would be a major blow. But the question is, is it possible to keep an ambitious young footballer, who works locally as a postman, from going on to professional football, and instead keep him in the Ryman/Southern Premier?

As committed as Hodgey has been to the cause this season (and that's one of the things I love about him), I don't think anyone could begrudge him taking the step up. He certainly deserves the chance to see if he can make the cut. And of course, I'd love to think Slough Town would welcome him back with open arms if things didn't work out (but I do think he will go on to bigger and better things eventually).

Having Winston back would be great, just think of the partnership with Boot last season - but as Dom says, he chose to sign a contract at Steve Browne's Boreham Wood (well, it was then anyway) so I'm not sure where his loyalties would be.

The ideal scenario for me would be having Hodges partnering Tony Boot next season. With the Milfer on the bench. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Speaking of Sammy Winston, I took this from the Isthmian forum regarding what Hunter said:

"The average home league attendance is 100, which, Hunter says, after costs, does not even cover the number nine's wages. "

I assume Sammy wears number 9 - if that doesn't cover his wages then how much is he on????

Just goes to show, I suppose, it's important for clubs in most cases to operate within their means. I can see Hunter's point about the dismal attendances and whether it's worth continung with funding the club. But as always it hits the loyal supporters the hardest. And with BWFC most likely operating at a lower level next season it's going to hit them even harder.

Would it be that bad if we lost Hodgey, and do we need Winston back.

On the bench we've got Miller who has a proven goalscoring record at this level, and Seedel who I saw for the first time on Tuesday.

I do not Know much about Seedel, but for the time he was on against Worthing his ball control was impressive in bad conditions, and he has a very strong presence. Would work well as target man laying balls off for Booty.

Can anyone tell us more about him.

If it all goes wrong we've always got Deaner to call up...........

Seedel has proven goalscoring ability in the reserves finishing as top scorer for the reserves this season with six goals.

Strong on the ball and good in the air, he would be a perfect foil for the Miller/Boot type striker looking to get in behind the defence. Can act either as a target man or possesses the ability to get past defenders.

Matt can turn into a quality player for the club and I can only hope he is given his chance in the first team. The amount of times I've seen reserve sides this year having to triple mark him and still he comes out with the ball. A great talent in the making.

I don't want to moan BUT... well it does annoy me that after a great season for Slough it now seems we may lose possibly our two top scorers and in Hodges, a player who in my opinion is one of the best I've seen play in a Rebels shirt. If the fact we'll lose Hodges is bad enough, if he's not even on contract just takes the pee!!! So we're not even going to get anything for him??? In today's market we could surely have got £20k package for him. It looks like another player slipping through into the pro game and Slough doesn't benefit. I know we have money probs but surely even half way throught the season they should have got Hodges on contract, even just for a year?! I really hope he (and Boot) stays but as someone else said you couldn't blame him if he wanted to test himself higher up and I for one would say good luck to him, I just hope we can sign a ready made replacement or something??!!

No. He is two faced little git in my opinion. All that crap he gave Browne and then he follows him to the Wood. He may have had his reasons for leaving but there are plenty other clubs he could have gone to. And let not forget when he joined us he was an overweight crock. Let him rot.

Well that's it he wasn't exactly great for morale was he? I am not entirely sure him and boot got on best well either. Let's keep us much of the squad as possible and build for next season with players who will fit in.

I really hope we keep most of the squad because as you say there seems to be a great togetherness within the team, sadly though I don't think it will happen.

I think Hodgey will be snapped up by one of the two he goes on trial with as the club will not have to pay us anything. Also think Booty will go around looking for league clubs again like he did last summer, as will Haddow who would not play in cup games for us at the start of the season fearing being cup tied. Apparently 3 teams are sniffing round chopper and he's ganna be difficult to keep hold of and also if Mr Browne gets a new job I think Veli could be back off to join him again.

Lets hope i'm wrong!

God I hope your wrong. A very depressing scenario. Any idea of the clubs sniffing round chopper ( a bizarre image), could Hornchurch be one given that every time the Uncle comes on here he says that Glen is the best midfielder at our level?

There are always changes in the close season, although this year I hope that there are fewer than normal because at least we know (don't we?) that we will have a club next year.

If we can retain 3 out of Daly, Gyoury, Murphy and Moller, that's the defence sorted.

Danny Steer is contracted for another year and I would expect Wilko to continue to play for us. Matt Miller also has another season on his contract and Seedel looks a fine prospect.

Chopper or Haddow could well go - but perhaps not both. Losing Veli would be a big blow, we really only started this season when he rejoined, but, that aside, there's a good nucleus to carry forward.

We obviously need another forward if both Hodges and Boot depart (well done the pair of them this year). As Northwood found, it's not easy to replace a 30 goal a season striker. But there are always other players that can be brought in. I mean, I'd never come across either Haddow or Harris before they joined us and they've both been great. I expect Eddie and his gang to be able to unearth others like them.

So, a line up of the following would be a start (I've excluded the Outlaw, is he the only loan player we had at the end?):

Foster

Riddell, Daly, Murphy, Moller (or Gyoury), Steer

Spencer, Wilkinson, Hakki

Seedel, Miller
