Capital League - Hornchurch 3 Bishops Stortford 2

Another keenly fought match at the Stadium between two young sides and four quality goals, the other being a well taken penalty.

The first came after 13 minutes when a superb through ball from Tony Maynard found Jeff Shepherd who slotted past Neil Tillotson in the Stortford goal. Our lead lasted 7 minutes when Micky Southam thundered home a shot from 12 yards after skipping past several defenders.

Tillotson made a great save from Lance McDowell in the 52nd minute but with 10 minutes to go Tony Maynard was put clear and he stroked the ball past the keeper from the edge of the area to put us back in front. 10 minutes after that Tony Maynard had an effort from a corner kicked off the line but Stortford went up the other end and equalised through a Tariq Abass penalty after keeper Oliver Sanders brought down a Stortford forward. Soon after a Stephen City header from a Terry Everett cross dipped just over and a minute later Everett himself had a chance, his header hitting the post. It looked like the points would be shared until Lance McDowell volleyed powerfully home from 18 yards to win the game with almost the final kick.

Line-up:- Sanders, Macitu, Holloway, Neville, Sorhaindo, Bradley, Shepherd (Everett 82), Doyle, Panzu (City 72), Maynard, McDowell. Subs not used:- Spackman, Light, Ayisire.
