From a Yank message board re: The Office!!

Recommended Posts

I have watched every episode multiple times now and am so excited to see there are 6 more on the way...BUT as a Yank I am afraid some of the British slang is lost on me...from Episode one when the Stapler is in the Jelly (jello-in the USA) Tim quips (apparently) that it is a trifling matter ...what is the pun here? What is trifle? Then he says something else about custard I think...I can't make it out...Another that Tim says is he guesses that Gareth is thinking "could I kill a tiger armed only with a biro?" That is how my Closed Captioning spells it out...is he possibly saying Bow and Arrow? Or is there something else...finally Finchy tells about [***!!***] one of his mates girlfriends and the friend meeting Finchy later -and the friend says something about Finch looking --I don;t remember what Knackered maybe??? and Finch says..."and you look like you've had a pot noodle and a w*nk!" The [***!!***] I understand...what is with the pot noodle?

They just don't... get... it.

S'funny aint it.....our tv companies don't give British viewers due regard when we're supposed to know what "brownies", "spunk", and "pantyhose" are when referred to in U.S sitcoms.
