Dear Phil

 

I am sorry that we have upset you by carrying the advertisement for text services. You are obviously a valued customer and we would not wish in any way to offend you.

 

It is, however, a harsh commercial world and we sometimes have to make decisions with which we are not fully comfortable. Our latest reader research showed that our market was 95% male and 100% of those who bought the paper were over 14.

 

The text advert in question is running for a limited period to gauge response and I have to tell you that you are not the only reader to have complained.

 

There is obviously a balance here between the financial benefit of these adverts and the potential damage they do to our readership.

 

I thank you for your letter because it will help us make our eventual decision.

THE NON-LEAGUE PAPER

 

Recently the Advertising Standards told a company to remove their advert as they had received 12 complaints.

Neil, another quality comment......Ive kept out of this one so far but I was noticing the ad's, and it is really annoying. There is so much to rabbitt on about in non league and they stoop this low, I will be sending £1.20 to ETFC this week for your good causes.

Please can you get rid of the annoying adverts regarding text sex, and everything else of this nature?

 

The paper is slowly going to slip away if this carries on and it will end up like the Sunday sport. Ok mainly men read it that’s why it’s targeted but we are football fans not in need of Viagra every Sunday morning……….

You say it's mainly aimed at men. HOwever, the non-league game is trying to attract families so if NLP want to increase their readership they need to watch what they print.

I'm a woman and I'm not particularly offended by them. However, I agree that NLP is not the place for them, not if it wants to continue to be considered a serious football paper. Unfortunately it's all down to money and revenue from advertising. SKY magazine which I'm sure young people read and many local papers including the Gravesend Reporter also contain them.

 

Our local paper carries very few, if any, and they're hidden away amongst electrical contractors and cars for sale!!

 

I wonder if that's because us Northerners are more reserved! <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Sorry Abbeynut I disagree, my daughter reads it & she is a "GIRLIE", very knowledgeable on Footie she is too.

 

There is no need for these type of Ads to be in the paper, so lets all boycott it this week & let the "BIG SHAVE OFF" Fund benefit.

and last Sunday, we had loads of youngsters in our house, why should I have to hide away a non-league football paper??

I think we're being a bit self-rightious.

 

None of us complained about the 'flooring contractors' advert in ETFC's programme.....With the headline 'A company that really will lay anything' written over a picture of a womens [****!!****]...Last season it was written over a lovely pair of t*ts .(and no,i don't mean nickynoc and fatboy).

 

The fact is those adverts are amusing.

 

Wonder what the picture will be next season.??
