More concerns about Ryman 2

Recommended Posts

Sorry to keep on about this, and I have no axe to grind with any team who take up an offer to go there. I just personally think the growth of Ryman 2 is against the principles of the new reformation.

One thing that hasn't been discussed, although I somebody may inform me that the rules have now changed, is the following:

I thought sideways moves (which ESL to Ryman 2 technically is)are a no no. Examples being Waltham Abbey and Barkingside having to play reserve football for one season to bridge the gap, and currently Saffron Walden, who have had to stop for a year to qualify.

Mr Chairman, would you be able to clarify this situation?

This is currently our dispute with the F A and your comments, Boroman, are spot on but because of this dispute, can't say anymore at present. Thanks again , Boroman and to Romford for standing by the ESL ! Still can't get over that brilliant display in the GBMT !

Surely Lge Chairman can't 'dispute' ETFC's decision to seek greener pastures (even if it only involves a sideways move). We've served our time and won everything there is to win in this league - can anyone really begrudge us a new challenge in the Ryman?

As I have said previously, I don't think this is anything personal against any team. If you move good luck, and there would be no hard feelings.

The issue is about the status of Ryman 2 against the ESL and have the goalposts been unfairly moved to the longer term detrement of the ESL without any consultation.

Sorry Gonzo, did not mean to upset you or your club, it is the whole picture that concerns me greatly on behalf of the League and, once again, Boroman has got it bang on and is what we are fighting as an injustice. As I have said in my letter, we fully accept that there are clubs who want to progress through the pyramid via Div 1 of the next step and we are here to give them every encouragement, but we find wholly unacceptable the breaching of F A Rules in "inviting" clubs to move sideways without both leagues agreeing to a "swap". It breaches the fundamental rule of the Non League system which was to maintain the numbers in leagues except where promotion and relegation is concerned... and that's gone a little awry too ! As Boroman says, it is not personal but I have to consider the well being of the ESL perhaps a little bit more than others because of my position but with the wholehearted backing I have been getting recently as these events with the F A begin to unfurl, life is made just that little easier in negotiations.

Completely understand that you are in a difficult position. Let's just picture the scenario where ETFC are not invited into Ryman 1 for some reason. This leaves ETFC wanting to take up their invitation to join Ryman 2. However, the ESL decide to contest such a move and succeed in blocking it. This would do neither ETFC nor the ESL any good. If ETFC were to join ryman 2 it looks as if Ilford would follow. Similarly, this wouldn't do the ESL any good. OK, so it's all hypothetical at the moment, but I'm not sure there's a way that the Ryman, ESL and ETFC can all emerge from this restructuring as winners. Good luck.

The ESL want whats best for them....perfectly understandable.

ETFC want whats best for them.....perfectly understandable.

Whatever the outcome ,i hope it dosn't sour the relationship between the two sides.

The ESL have been very good for ETFC,and ETFC have been very good for the ESL....Lets stay friends.

Mr Chairman....If you keep insisting on no sideways moves...Have you thought that the FA might call your bluff and only promote ESL winners to Div 2 from next season...Thus making Div 2 higher up the pyramid, and nullifying the argument..(i for one hope that dosn't happen.)

The FA recognise that this is a problem but, to quote Mike Appleby at his meeting with SSML clubs this week, "The Ryman League have rules which entitle them to a constitution of 16 clubs in their Division 2 and to invite clubs from other leagues to make up this number and, although we would like to change this, we can't at present".

Just think of the 120 away supporters at £5.00 a time together with drinks and food. Surely that would make people think about wanting to release a team from one league to another.
you always go on about £5 a person.......it's so boring, if you all had any real guts, once Laz went you would go back to your rightful club........ESL clubs get one pay day but so what, do you really think the ESL will fold because ETFC have got there heads in the clouds because they have 100-200 people very week...I think not.........get real, oh I can't wait for the reaction now.......

and now you got me going, do you really think our Chairman (and I apologise if i'm wrong here) thinks about attendances, when he has a whole league to think about and the good they do for football. There are teams like London Apsa , Eton Manor, ourselves, Hullbridge, and I could go on, all of which have good people with little resources but continue week in week out to strive to stay in senior football. Rightfull places.....sorry my blood boils at times...

Total agree with all but......Its not Mr Chairman, its always been that way. ETFC come in and cos they have 100+ fans they think they can dictate. Sorry lovely but it's always been that way at our level.......fall in, I guess that's what we have always been up against, I take it you were from the old EFC days when these issues did not concern you........well welcome to the real world... Mr Chairman you fight the cause, top man!

Who said anything about the league folding if ETFC were not in it? I certainly didn't.

You have to admit though that nearly all the ESL clubs welcome a home game against us because it boosts their attendance for the day. Income goes up and the club prospers.

Just to let you know over in the SSML clubs are having the same discussions re Ryman div 2 after most of the premier division clubs received "invitations". I think most clubs have turned it down, most saying they don't want to be in a league with max of 16 clubs in it (but more likely about 12 teams) and the whole of step 5 being restructured the following season. Of the 15 current div 2 clubs, 2 will go up (only 1 next year), Wokingham are going elsewhere, Abingdon, Edgware, Kingsbury, Witham and Ware want out and Clapton well who knows. There also appears to be a lack of trust and respect of the Ryman League Management. I don't know of any clubs from our league who will join div 2 next year but I suspect there are only a couple interested now. For the record I support Ruislip Manor (not Eton or Southend) and I understand that we are not interested in a sideways move unless it makes geographical sense. So no Chertsey or Camberley for me next year! <img src="/images/graemlins/achso.gif" alt="" />
