Egham 2-3 Slough

Haddow (2) and Boot goals mean we win this important game. We went 1-0 and 2-1 down but the team showed great character to keep battling and got their rewards after a poor first half. Egham played well in the first half and worked very hard on a bobbly pitch. Anyone know the Worthing - Lewes score?

its all eyes on saturday, another must win game. anyways, slough were poor and egham capitalised, slough upped the game and equalised before egham again took the lead. In the second half it seemed to be slipping away from slough before haddow and boot wrapped up the points. it did look like the result could get away from us, but that second half burst put the result beyond doubt

I thought that first half (even though I missed the opening five minutes due to getting lost) we were poor and did not know how to play on the bobbily pitch. Egham on the other hand knew how to play and worked so hard closing us down not allowing us to play any kind of football.

Second half wre played a lot better and they ran out of gas and I don't think had a shot. Seemed to ware them out by using the ball more effectively.

Great two goals from Haddow and a nice one form Booty as well.

Roll on Saturday!

I think the word 'Phew!' is appropriate here.

Well done guys!

The difference with this most recent run is that the team have learned to fight back when behind. (And about time too!) Good stuff!

Very poor first half with a much improved second. Moller was again outstanding although personally thought Hakki was poor up until about 60 minutes and that Foster almost gave them an equaliser in the last minute. Lovely goals from Haddow, first was excellent as it is such a hard skill to keep that kind of volley down and on target. All in all a good win and as Chris states on another thread the chance to gain promotion on Saturday. To go with the walk that would be great.

P.S. 2 quick thank yous

1. Chris B for offering to scrape together a report after I forgot my stuff

2. Emma for offering me a lift for tomorrow night

See some of you tomorrow and the rest on Saturday

UP THE REBELS!!!!!

God we know how to put the fans through a mangle...Phew ! was the word ....We just shaded the match after a spirted effort from Egham...why are they so near the bottom ??? also they have a Great bunch of supporters...never stopped supporting their team....a credit to any team..

But the big difference from last year is that our boys don't just give up...and a good recovery was made last night, well done Rebels....

see you saturday....if I make it on the walk.....

Still upset you called me gay. Because I'm not. Just thought I'd make that clear before Radders or Liam tries to make advances on me!

Egham fans - superb. A class above.

Slough fans - as good as they've been for a while, possibly Stortford. Especially once we'd drawn level a second time. The covering at the ground clearly helped, and I'd be quite happy to have a ground like that as it made for a good atmosphere.

I would say Windsor take note, but it would obviously offend someone, so I won't.

Now then, Mr S, back to you. Quit your moaning, join in the singing (don't just leave it to others) and 'Let's all have a party!'

Egham did look "up for it" yesterday and played well enough to make you wonder why they are stuck down near the bottom. But I suppose it was their cup final. Although I would have thought for them two games against Staines this season would have been more important.

The difference between yesterday and other games where we have capitulated once falling behind is, in my opinion, that we actually made an effort to adapt to the conditions and to they way the opposition performed. They had weaknesses in the back line notably number two and number 5. We attempted to exploit those and I think it largely worked.

As ever the result is more important than the performance so well done to the lads, keep it going Saturday.

If egham had won yesterday they would have been 1 point behind moseley with two games to play. Now its four points and relegation looks a certainty - which puts them into the applying for a division 1 spot bracket.

Thought we made the game difficult for ourselves. Immense running by Hodges, Boot and Wilko (often unsung) was wasted by poor disribution. Murphy was well below his usual standard. We continue to try to beat players by lobing it over their heads in one on one situations. This does not work. Thought Carbon did really well for the first goal, the ball took a wicked bobble just before he crossed. Still seems to fade in the second half. Dont know if that is youth or playing a more defensive role.

The main point is we battled for an away victory, and everyone kept trying. looking forward to Saturday should be a good pitch that will suit out fast interpassing game

As far as I know it is only 2 going down !

By the way evadne, we (EGHAM) DO hate Staines as much as ever! We sung it most of the first half but didn't hear too much of the same back from you? Hope thats clear !

Thanks, Dominic, you are quite right - all this effort from STFC just to stand still (we hope).

And to UK Sub - but when our Barmy Army sang "We hate Staines Town" as a gesture of solidarity, you didn't sing back:

"But not as much as we do", like you did at your away match. Thus my previous comment.
