Next Season

Staying-up

Recommended Posts

Well I think we can finally talk about next season in the Conference and all the benefits it will bring.

We will have only one qualifying game in the FA Cup and one less round in the FA Trophy.

We are bound to be on SKY Live at least once. Maybe even it will be first day of the season to show our first ever game in the Conference.

The standard of Football will be a lot better and the crowds are going to be a lot bigger both home and away.

Plus the fixtures will come out much sooner and will be out by June.

I can't wait its going to be a wonderful experience being in the Conference.

Probably more of an Accrington. A solid first season in the Conference.

I'd settle for 19th in the Conference next season, it would be better than 1st in Conference South.

One thing I like about next season, although it's only a minor one is the use of Squad Numbers. Not only will each Canvey players have his own name and number of the back of their shirt, but so will the opposition.

I know back in the days when I wrote Match Reports, it was sometimes hard to figure out who the oppostions line-up was cause they wouldn't match up with the programme and going to places like Burnley and Wigan was a relief as they had the whole list of players on the back of their programme and you would just tick them off.

Would be good to anticipate who gets which number next season and if any players get requests!

I'd like to think Ollie Berquez will still be with us next season, if it happens though is a totally different matter. From what I saw of him at the beginning of the season he can really up his game on some occasions so 12 or 14 would be about his.

I would think that Scott Forbes has played his last game for us and will depart over the Summer, from the whole squad, he's the only I am definately confident will leave. On the other hand Micky Bennett hasn't started a single First XI game this season, but maybe in the Conference a strong, battling Defensive Midfield role for him could be ideal.

Quote "We are BOUND to be on Sky live at least once" - Dont bank on it - we've not had a live game in our 2 seasons in the Conference (other than the Cup tie with Notts County) and Sky are only contractually bound to show 10 (I think) live games a season. They tend to stick to title challengers and their favoured teams (such as Woking)

Whilst you are correct that the standard of football will be a lot better, be prepared for the standard of refereeing to be no better than the Ryman, and indeed, often worse than the Ryman. The regular presence of assessors in the crowd seems to have a major adverse impact, as refs feel they have to apply the letter of the law, rather than using common sense.

As for the crowds being a lot bigger - Yes, they will increase, especially for a number of the away games. Dont expect to suddenly pull in huge crowds at home though - our average attendance increased by around 35% I believe in our first season in the Conference as compared to our Ryman winning season - yes, thats a fair few extra bums on seats, I know, and equally, we spent much of the season fighting relegation, but given your average gate this season (c700?? at a guess), you would just about hit the 1000 mark, if you're lucky. If you average more than that, I think you'll be doing well.

Mind you the local derby with us could in itself, massively improve the average !!
