What a load of bull, How can ETFC who have only been going for , is it two seasons?, say they have a rightful place in the Ryman league? They have never been there and B no one has a remotely looking righful place if they ain't got a ground that has a grading.

Would you not say all grounds with a fixed rail can hold 300 people? (Or without come to that)

I am sure your own club members will tell you why you didn't go up.

One thing that is ridiculous though is the fact that clubs at our level have to have seats for god knows how many when the average attendance is about 30 overall. I understand the need for potential but when the finances that are at the top start coming down to the bottom then maybe the game will flourish throughout. Food for thought...one Premiership clubs wage bill for one week would probably give every club in the ESL their ground grading almost overnight, with one or two exceptions. Too much dough at the top I reckon, and there's only so much one person can spend. Especially if they don't drink!!!

We didn't go up because of the ground. My view is that at this level, the footballing authorities need to encourage clubs to progress. As long as there is a rail around the pitch, the ground is fairly well enclosed, there are adequate changing facilities, decent flood-lighting is in place, there is emergency access and there is a concrete perimeter around the pitch why shouldn't clubs be promoted. After all, ground improvement grants are only offered to get your ground up to the level for the league you are playing in and not for the league in which you wish to progress to. As far as I'm concerned, promotioin should be granted and then a period of time given for the club to get the ground improved for the new level. If this is not achieved then the club should then be relegated back from whence it came. By doing this clubs wouldstrive both on and off the pitch to improve.

Even more radical, but should the footballing authorities be the right people to judge?

I think there is a parallel in liquor licensing. This is no longer the province of the courts, but of local authorities. I guess they are deemed to be better placed to judge the social impact of granting a license, measured against the existance of some minimum standards for safe and compliant trading.

Why not the same for football ground facilities/clubs' liquidity, etc?

Yeh interesting point someone told me, at our level we can apply for grants up to £100k, at the next step I think it is £150k and it goes on to about £400k for the conference. Surley the clubs like ours need the bigger slice cos the ones already up there have the facilities otherwise they wouldnt be there in the first place?

I really must do some work today but this is an interesting subject.

Now we meet the standards ,we will be delighted to take up the 'Ryman Div 1' place that was denied us on a technicality last season.

And on this one, am I right in saying that they have not offered you promotion (which they quite rightly should) but a move which is technically sideways?

The Ryman league has offered ETFC a place in Ryman 2 'IF' they don't get promoted into Div 1.

Clubs to be promoted into Div 1 has still to be decided.

The grapevine indicates, that if ETFC gets at least 3rd place in the league and win the league cup,the possibility of promotion to DIV 1 is quite good.

I think the Ryman feel that a club that can win six or seven trophies in three seasons, has a nice ground and a lot of supporters ,would be an asset to them...Especialy as they could have clubs like Cheshunt and Leyton playing in the premier with attendences under 100.

I think the equivalence of the two divisions is a moot point.

Not only in the differences in how you get promoted into Ryman I; surely for the two to be equal each side in each division ought to be able to be capable of playing in the other. While I imagine that would apply to the Ryman II clubs being able to meet standards of ESL, I'm not sure it would work the other way around.

Make sense?

So, to say that the final 2 matches of the season are huge for ETFC is something of an understatement! Sounds like they are almost the equivalent to play-offs. Let's just hope the decision regarding promotion to Ryman 1 has already been made behind the scenes and we'll be going up no matter what!

was it good that ETFC were denied their rightfull place in the Ryman last year, after winning the league.??

No it wasn't! As I said, if decisions are taken for organisational or commercial reasons, the matches are less interesting.

I think the idea of allowing a team without sufficient facilities up for a provisional stay in a higher league is a very good one. This would certainly reduce the numbers of promotions and relegations decided off the field of play.
