Hi herts blue.

Who plays at Brisbane Road?

Oh, one more small thing, HB. If you are who I think you are, you have a rudimentary knowledge of the English language and you might be able to assist me. Here is a sentence from a low-budget small readership periodical that caught my eye at the week-end and I wonder if you could explain why it isn't. A sentence, that is:

"Not sure that we'd have seen quite that reaction before Christmas."

A slight lack of anything in the nominative case there chaps and no active verb.

One should always be concerned if one takes time off from a £50,000 a year position, HB, and finds that the vitally important and enormously complex tasks that justify a salary of that magnitude are accomplished seamlessly by a person who earns considerably less.

Who was it who took the team sheet from the Manager to the referee one hour before kick-off in your absense, anyway?

It's a good job you weren't there on Monday, HB. It was standing room only in the Director's Box.

Never fear, HB. I know some of the people in high places at Clarence Park and whilst I don't claim any level of influence, I'll put in a good word.

Good job that the club is making loads of money on the back of the rocketing attendances. Err... Hang on a minute.....

Standing room only in the director's box you say. After all YOUR fine work, it seems 'the box' is the only place where you see a St. Albans crowd these days.

Average down to about 200 these days eh? Seems a long way from the 3,000-plus against Boston. Keep up the good work Peter - we're all admiring your fine efforts.

Oh ... and how was the rugby?

I suppose that someone should respond to Lee Harding and it might as well be me.

Yes Lee. We are 19th in the League and attendances are well down on the first half of the season. However, the team is playing much better football compared to two or three months ago and we hope to secure a place and do well in the play-off matches to come. Various issues 'off the pitch' are being addressed.

There have been bleak moments over the past few months.

However. I, for one, take some comfort that things could be worse. We were suspended from the Ryman League 3 years ago as the Club could not give suitable assurances to the League's Management Committee that it could fulfil it's fixtures for the season. Players were not being paid, let alone day to day bills. Debts were racking up to an enormous amount. The club was on the brink of extinction.

There was a Police investigation and half-a-dozen people from the club were interviewed. The Chairman at the time was interviewed at the Police Station 'under caution'. Fortunately for all involved, no charges were made.

Information required by the Football Association was not forthcoming.

These are facts and it's probably best not to go into any detail of the various rumours surrounding the running of the club at that time. Those involved in the running of our football club at the time were a laughing stock throughout the League. They were a laughing stock on the terraces at Clarence Park, too. The laughter stopped when the perilous state of the Club became apparent.

Those days are now behind us, fortunately.

As I said, things could be a lot worse.

News that various issues off the pitch are being addressed is reassuring. Reports of assault by players upon supporters are particularly worrying. Perhaps the matter should have been reported to the Police.

Talking of the police, and just out of interest for old time's sake, who was it that initiated the Police Investigation, that the local force regarded as (and I quote) "a complete waste of their time" Oh, and changing the subject completely, thanks ever so much for your efforts with the kit sponsorship draw that prompted that police investigation - worth every penny.

As to the suspension, you will remember that it could have been avoided if there had been more support for the then board from the Club's supporters. But without that support, the Chairman did the right thing and stepped down. What followed was what you wanted, surely?

As to the gates, these are indeed sad times for the club, with less than 200 coming through the door and even you deciding to watch the rugby.

Anyway, for once you and I are in complete agreement. Things could be worse - YOU COULD BE CHAIRMAN.

Fortunately - for all football - that was stopped.

Grudge, grudge, grudge!

Mr Harding

Was the near demise of SACFC anything to do with your management of the club or was it all everyone elses fault. I seem to recall you saying you could cope with your expenditure but not that left behind by Tominey, I also remember Mr Gibson complaining about debts from the previous regime coming out of the woodwork. What goes around comes around.

You were the man in charge who made all the big promises, you carry the can.

Cue glib, self serving reply that will not mention the 1000 - 3000+ crowds we got on occasions before you turned up.

Wilfie, me old China, are we discussing the 'near-demise' of 1998 or 2002. I think Mr Harding did his bit in ensuring that the club avoided both. We could discuss if you wish.

Oh, and the day Mr H 'turned up' we got a crowd of 0,067 against Ware, if I recall, having just lost 6-1 at Hendon. Twelve months later we were top of the League and getting four-figure gates.

Jilly - where were you when Mr H was sweeping the snow off the touchlines against Ashton in the Trophy, or buying 300 seats at Reading for our stand, or getting an upgraded floodlighting system? What did YOU do to help?

Your go 'gentlemen'.

nice try fella

BUT that wasn't my question....

On another level I never ever have to justify my support of this football club to anyone, least of all to a muggy 2 bob salad dodger like yourself

(.....as for sweeping the snow , I could cite Baldock at home, if we're gonna get petty ...tho werent u chairman when u did those marvellous things?)

As predicted, glib, self serving reply from the only man to have ever attracted a decent 'gate' to the club.

Well done Lee, you are the modern role model for that age old fable, The Emperor Has No Clothes On. You could have been compared to Icarus but you would not have been able to get off the ground let alone get near the sun.

Now here is a lesson to any fat, glasses wearing schoolboys who were the last to be picked for games at school and want to be popular. Buying a football club does not make you a better person, it just gives you the chance to promise the (footballing) world, put up a fence, lock your carkeys in the boot and then show all of your failings as a person.
