Goals from other areas

Just updating the site today and Hodgy has scored 32 this season overtaking Booty's 31 from last season with Booty moving up to 20 (well done you two who needs sammy winston).

 

Anyway the other thing I noticed was the lack of goals from midfield. Spencer and Chopper are our next highest scorers with five each and Spence has not played in the first team since about Christmas. The midfield must start chipping in with a few before the seasons out as we can't rely on the two strikers every match I feel.

I agree, and I find it a bit strange that Veli doesn't score many (he hasn't scored since coming back to us). He is unselfish in that he would prefer to thread through balls to the front two or to the wings, but I feel that sometimes when he gets into good shooting positions, he needs to pull the trigger rather than put in a cross. It was a shame that neither he, or Ryan Williams scored yesterday as they both had decent chances.

Chris, you seem to forget Matt Miller who is in double figures for his role in the early months of the season. I agree it would be better if the midfield scored more goals, but for half of the season we persisted with playing three strikers and as a result it is not too surprising that the midfield haven't scored many. As you pointed out, Spencer has been injured, Haddow has been in and out of the team but often playing a defensive role but has still chipped in with the goals, and it has only been in recent months that chopper has played regularly and has chipped in with some goals. Keep Hodge and Boot scoring for 6 more league matches and I really don't care too much!

Today emphasised Chris' point - what would we do without Hodges and Boot? I hope we don't miss Boot too much during his suspension - that is, I hope Matt Miller can tuck one away soon and get back on the goal trail.
