When was the last time an Essex Senior League team went through a whole season without losing an away league game?

What is the record for such a feat?

Well done to ETFC for their win and a whole season without losing a league game away from the Brimmo stadium.

It's amazing what a little bit of grass will do for a team. I mean the stuff we played on!!!

This is a very interesting one because there have been many different "types" of season, for instance we only had 16 games back in 1972 when Witham did it, 18 games in 1973 when Billericay achieved the feat , 26 games in 1998 with Concord Rangers and 1999 Bowers United coming up trumps and I suppose the greatest of all, Heybridge Swifts in 1983-84 in a 32 match campaign their away record was 13-3-0-33-11. But, let's not take it away from Enfield Town, well done on your "away" record, which, in a 30 match season is the best ever. (My thanks to ESL statistician Keith Roe for the facts and figures)

Now you have me worried saying 25 "not out" - always look on the bright side ... in fact, congratulations are in order to Enfield Town as you have broken the all time League record for Away games without defeat, this was previously held by Heybridge Swifts who were beaten 0-2 by Brightlingsea United on March 5th 1983 and then went 22 games away from home without defeat until May 1984 when they were promoted to the Isthmian League , so they were also, as you say, "not out" ! I saw a few of these with Neville Fox, Julian Lamb , David Groom, Jimmy Holder and Peter Anderson in their side - quite formidable - they went on to a third place spot in the old Div 2 North in 84-85. The 1995--1998 Great Wakering Rovers 33 games without defeat in all League games included a powerful Home record and only had 19 Away without defeat amongst the total.. so, well done and thanks Andy for picking this one up which will be broadcast in next week's Centre Spot.
