Ryman League - Hornchurch 1 Aylesbury United 0

A significant result for both clubs. For us these three points mean that we are guaranteed a top 13 finish - but for Aylesbury, unless they manage a bizarre sequence of high scoring victories in their remaining games, this has almost certainly consigned them to a bottom four finish.

Keeper Jack Rasid was Aylesbury's hero in the first half and he was forced to pull off a great save after only two minutes after a run and shot from Bertie Brayley. A Robert Martin free kick from the left touchline 5 minutes later evaded Rasid but the ball floated harmlessly across goal and wide. A rare chance for Aylesbury came in the 12th minute. A Matthew Hayward free kick from the half-way line went all the way into the penalty area where Danny Kerrigan had to clear off the line after Danny Gay failed to get to the ball. Lee Williams had a long range effort saved on 21 minutes and found the net with a header from the resulting corner but the goal was chalked off for a foul on Rashid. Three minutes later Brayley wrongfooted a defender on the corner of the area but once again Rashid was equal to the effort and dived full length the push the ball wide. The unlucky Brayley had a further chance in the 26th minute when he got clear of the Aylesbury defence but took too long in deciding to round Rashid and was well tackled by John Winter. The goal came with 8 minutes of the half to go from Jamie Southon who headed in at the far post from a Robert Martin cross from the touchline.

Aylesbury showed a lot of heart in the second half and could have equalised 7 minutes in when substitute Alvin Bubb found himself clear after a ball over the top of defence but his turn and shot was blocked by the advancing Danny Gay. Gay had to scurry across to shepherd out a header from Ryan Wiffin 4 minutes later and must have breathed a sigh of relief when Bubb blaster over the bar from 18 yards on 65 minutes after being put clear from a long kick by Rasid. Aylesbury's threat faded soon after and Rasid was a busy man again. A John Martin 70th minute effort went just over the bar and a towering far post header from Vinnie John from a John Martin corner was deflected just wide with 15 minutes to go. Rasid saved well from a Jamie Southon 25 yard shot a minute later and in injury time had to be alert again to save a deflected 18 yard effort from Mark Graham.

Line-up:- Gay, Dell, Kerrigan, Adedeji, Gooding, Williams (Graham 82), R. Martin (Locke 82), Southon, John, Brayley (Keeling 71), J. Martin. Subs not used:- Abbott, McCartney (GK)
