Ryman League - Hornchurch 2 Carshalton Athletic 0

Carshalton certainly don't enjoy playing at the Stadium. On their last visit earlier in the season they lost 5-0 in the FA Cup, and for a few minutes at least it looked like that scoreline could be repeated.

We totally dominated the first half and found it easy to get through the Carshalton defence. Lee Williams shot against the post when he found himself with space in front of goal albeit at a tight angle in the 7th minute and a John Martin goalbound header was cleared off the line by Colin Hartburn 6 minutes later. Three minutes later we were in front. A quickly taken free kick found its way to Bertie Brayley on the edge of the penalty area. He was unlucky to see his curling shot come back off the post but Lee Matthews was on hand to put away the loose ball in front of an unguarded net. A long ball forward a minute later found Vinnie John clear but his attempt to lift the ball in over the keeper bounced just wide. Rob Martin shot just wide on 20 minutes after robbing a defender on the touchline and completing a mazy run into the area, but just 2 minutes later we extended our lead. Some slack defending gave Vinnie John the opportunity to cross the ball in from the right and John Martin headed firmly home. It should have been 3-0 just before the break. A long range Vinnie John shot was spilled by keeper Paul Borg and Rob Martin followed up, rounded the keeper and unbelievably managed to find the side netting from within the 6 yard area. As Martin stood with head in hands Jamie Southon was quickly over to get the youngter's chin back up and his mind back on the game - nice touch that.

Things looking good so far then, but with recent second half performances in mind it was with cautious optimism that home faithful prepared to watch the 2nd 45 minutes. Carshalton's Nic McDonnell was presented with a couple of good chances early on, bringing out a good save from Gay in the 52nd minute and shooting wide when well placed from a Peter Wood cross 3 minutes later. But these two efforts was about all they could muster and we were back on the offensive a few minutes later when a Jamie Southon shot was well saved by Borg. In the 77th minute a long forward ball put Vinnie John clear, but the bounce slowed his run and after a neat pirrhouette on the edge of the area his shot when straight into the keeper's arms. We finished the match looking very comfortable and with a parting shot from John Keeling from the corner of the area in injury time curling just wide.

Line-up: Gay, Gooding, Rowland, Adedeji, Matthews (McGowan 67), Williams, R Martin, Southon, John, Brayley (Keeling 87), J Martin. Subs not used:- Abbott, Kerrigan, McCartney (GK)

If Digger's talking about singing/shouting swear words out loud, then I agree that I wish there was not that element at our matches. I like to think we are above that sort of thing [as supporters]...and only expect that kind of vocal support at Chav places.

I suppose I'll be called pussycat now?
