I was reading part 26 of Canveys history in the Canvey Telford programme and Pauls name was mentioned in the 1983 squad.

Does anyone know what he's up to now??? He was a mate from school and an old neighbour. I understand he was a good footballer as well

Paul was in my year at Cornelius and I was unaware that he played for Canvey until recently.

 

I wouldn't know where he is or what he is doing now, but he could play for my veteran's team if he wanted to!

You saying we're old and past it??? That makes me the same age as you as I went to Cornelius too!!! Same year as you!!

Thought he might have gone places. I seem to remember (i think) that he had something to do with Arsenal as a kid!!

He always had to kick something around - even me dads cabbages out the garden that he used to nick!!

Paul was and is a " Canvey great" . He was about 21 when he captained the Canvey First X1 and had not only been a Southend United apprentice but was their young player of the year in 1977 and was picked for Essex Youth, moving on to Billericay and Concord before joining the Gulls. He always regretted not being taken on full time at Southend and Spurs. He was our regular No 11 in the early - mid 80's but, sadly his ambition of playing for England alongside Gary Britnell didn't come off ! Good news is that he is about as Mrs Chairman met him in Southend High Street for a wee chin-wag a few weeks back.

Thanks for that Mr C. I only saw him play the once (wasn't much into then). Shame his ambition didn't take off though.
