Loss at Carshalton

Recommended Posts

Disappointing loss, We clearly have the ability, but do we have the will?

In what was a physical battling game, on the day, the carshalton mental strength and belief was stronger. It was disappointing because at the Stortford game the reverse was true, our will and determination won out.

Its clear we can still make the play offs, but in my opinion, only if we play every minute of every game with the determination shown at the Stortford game.

Com'on you Blues.

Our main problem was that some of our players lacked confiedence in front of goal. For example, Tomo had a chance that if he had "pulled the tigger", I'm sure it would've flown in (or at least tested the keeper) but he opted to push it our wide to SJ. And that is what I think is the problem with the team. We have the players and they have the ability but this run has hit their confiedence.

Anyway, time for us to put this losing run to bed and grab those three points next Saturday. Bognor ain't much and if I recall, we were pretty unlucky when we played them at their "gaff". So lads, start believing in yourselves and we can do this.

......And you never know, we may give the "pikies" a shock on Easter Monday.

Is pulling the "tigger" one of your deviant practices then gazza??

I actually disagree totally with the first comment made on the thread about us having the ability but not the will.
i thought we gave it our best shot yesterday, and the better performers were those who had been singled out on tuesday, but we were not good enough to take advantage of the fact that carshalton had an outfield player between the sticks for 85 minutes.
in that time we managed only two shots on target, one straight into the keepers midrift and the other into the back of the net.
at least in the second half we bought a few more tickets but too often we failed to trouble their stand-in keeper and the final ball delivery both from set pieces and open play was shocking as time and time again the ball sailed straight out for a goal kick.
i spose things could have been different had Hockers second half effort gone in instead of hitting the post but we are so reliant on him in front of goal it's frightening.
i think you have to give carshalton some credit. they played well, kept it away from their keeper and deserved their win. again i felt it was due to lack of ability (or maybe confidence as been suggested elsewhere) rather than lack of effort that we lost this game.

while there's life there's hope and incredibly, despite having lost 5 out of our last 6 games, we are not out of contention for a play off game yet. Lets hope we can at least get to Northwood on the last day of the season with it being a meaningful game.

Oh and the team was

weaver

aziz trott sappleton henty

hunter (tomlinson) davidson (jones) dormer black

baukham (stowe) hockton

snu: taylor and redders (i think)

tomlinson and stowe both got about half an hour and jones about ten minutes. i thought all the changes were well timed although sadly fruitless.

I Agree jl, the effort was there for all to see, but it takes more than that. A will to win is something different, its the belief that we will win, right up until the whistle goes. 2 goals in the last 3 minute's... its possible.

But I am not sure we believed it possible.

I also agree that we should have tested the keeper more, at every opportunity would have been good. With the belief that we WILL win, i am convinced we would have lots more shots.

I still think we have the ability, The team is good enough, BUT, only if they believe it.

How come it was Bauckham that started and Stowe was left on the bench again?? Stowey is ten times better than him!

I'm not too sure if we will make the play-offs actually, I think if we beat Bognor, then there might be a glimmer of hope left for us, but if we don't then I just can't see us getting there.
