Ryman League - Grays Athletic 0 Hornchurch 0

Despite there being no goals this was a good game to watch. Grays looked the stronger side for the first half hour with Adedeji having to clear off the line in the 6th minute and Freddy Eastwood and Martin Carthy shooting narrowly over when well placed in the 22nd and 29th minutes respectively. We finished the half stronger. A Jon Keeling shot from the corner of the area in the 34th minute beat Mel Capleton in the Grays goal but just didn't curl enough to fall the right side of the post for us. With 5 minutes to go Capleton made a good save from a free kick which dipped over the wall and which he must have seen late.

The second half didn't produce as many chances for either side but it was keenly contested and kept up the frantic pace of the first - in fact it's good to see quickly taken throw-ins and free-kicks throughout. A noisy crowd added to the occasion. A defensive slip would have produced a goal which probably would have won the game, but neither side were going to oblige.

Line-up:- Gay, Dell, Rowland, Adedeji (Gooding 49), John, Southon, R. Martin, J. Martin, Douglas, Brayley (Abbott 78), Keeling. Subs not used:- Graham, McGowan, McCartney (GK)

First half was awful, Grays had a lot of chances and we did run our luck, but thats football and we got the breaks.

Second half was a lot better and we at least created some chances, through John Keeling. Jamie Southon was again for a second week committed and battled for every ball. The ref turned a blind eye to a lot of niggle.

There was only one player on the pitch that should play for a premier club and it was not Eastwood, it was our own John Keeling

We do seem to have lost our composure and we certainly miss a leader in the center of the park and a goal scorer.

All in all and good point considering the injuries, a poor game, poor ground and a bunch of bad losers.

Up the Urchins.
