Pre-season friendlies

Recommended Posts

Who would you like your team to have a pre-season friendly and why?

I'd like the town to have one with Braintree - As Lee Harding is a great friend of the Town and I enjoyed the trip to Long Melford last year I'd like to go and see all the good things he's doing at Braintree FC this year. OK - I'm nosy.

A team at the same level as we will be at but wont play would be a good idea to gauge whats needed.

Lower sides are beat easily and higher beat you easily,so a similar level will teach a lot more about the hopes and aspirations.

One of the most enjoyable friendlies I have seen was EFC against Arsenal a few years ago. Southbury Road was packed. It was a lovely summer's day and the scum fielded their first 11 in the first half (minus their World Cup players). We drew 0-0 and Steve Terry made a certain Mr Anelka look very ordinary (mind you Anelka is ordinary!). EFC should have won it in the last ten minutes when we had a one on one with their keeper. It was my stag night as well. All in all, a great day aprt from me ending up in the new river loop at 11.00pm!

Colney Heath or Leverstock Green from the Spartan League. Beautiful, tree-lined settings - much better to go there in July than January! Failing that, Holmer Green or Hoddesdon from the same division.
