George Borg Resigns

George Borg has today tendered his resignation from Hornchurch Football Club Limited. In a statement made earlier this morning George said;-

''The issue arose over my commitment to coach in America this summer and the Board were reluctant to allow my absence during the close season which I understand the reasons for. In that respect I have today tendered my resignation from all managerial responsibilities.

I would like to thank the fans, staff and players for all the support that they have given me during my stay here and also thank the board for releasing me from my contract.

The season so far has been a good one and the success in the two major cups was enjoyed by all of us and put the club on the map. I hope that the club continue to move forward and enjoy much more success in the future. I have enjoyed my stay working with very commited people and feel that I have taken the club up another step from where it was when I joined''

Gary Calder, the Club Chairman said;-

''I am obviously disappointed but George has made a commitment to America and obviously he wants to honour that commitment. On the other hand we feel that George's absence during close season could be detrimental to the Clubs ambitions in next years restructured leagues. I therefore had no choice but to refuse him permission to go. George has brought much success to our club this year and I thank him and wish him much success in the future. He and his family will always be welcome at our football club and his photograph will remain proudly on the clubhouse wall.

Coach John Lawrence and Physio John Gowans will continue to train the team and I shall work with them in that respect until the end of the season. We shall be advertising for a new Manager in due course''

Resigned!!! Don't think so suppose he resigned just like Mick Marsden did. The club needs to come clean they were both sacked. Borg was the wrong man and its taken 7 mths to find that out. With all the backing avaliable to him the team should be at the top of the Ryman Premier. No one likes him a dinoasaur of football managers/coaches and claims to play football Yeah right !!

Its obvious Garry Hill is the new man for the job he has all the right experience and will be far better than Borg.

An April Fool????

Probably not, must say though that I am not surprised to be honest. I don't think GB was the right man for the job, although that said, off the pitch he was a thoroughly nice and decent guy to talk to. Good luck George.

Personally i think the writing has been on the wall for a couple on months now. I'm not going the slag GB off as i think he has taken Hornchurch to another level. But the pressure of expectation of Hornchurch getting promotion has taken it's toll. Too many players coming and going through out the season can't be good for any team and the question has to be asked why all the changes...couldn't he handle these players? if so why sign them!!!!

As a fan i just hope the next man in has the experience and is aware of the expectations that will be put on him.

As for George all I can say is good luck and thank you.

Spot on Bridgey, too many team changes and too many rather dubious signings. Fair enough, injuries, suspensions etc have caused some team changes. Also, some of the signings just haven't worked out for us and some have been down right poor! Also, and I'm not having a pop at the guy who has just left us, but a lack of passion and effort has been evident far too often this season and at the end of the day, that must rest with the manager. As I said before though, off the pitch Georgie was a gent and extremely honest guy. All the best!

It must be a real kick in the nuts to lose such a paragon of virtue.

Don't worry. Assuming this is not a wind up Borg will not be far away. He is as likely to end up in the States as me bumping into Osama bin Laden in Sainsbury's later.

Wonder if he wanted £30k to go like last time? Probably doesn't need it with his brown paper bag and incredible disappearing "agent".

I would like to thank George Borg for the fantastic job he has done at Hornchurch this season. He took over the team a week before the season started and has inherited what some of you "loyal supporters" call good players!! Why was he not given a free purse to buy exactly who he wanted to, if the Club's only aim was to win, win, win? What about the FA Cup run he has had this year for Hornchurch? FA Trophy? Bryco Cup?

Hornchurch has enjoyed incredible success this year and this is due to George, Terry, John Gowens and John Lawrence. Not those people who sit at a desk and answer the phone? Or even those who control the purse! No, the work has been done by George and his team.

The concern that many Hornchurch supporters do have is who will be George's successor? With Garry Hill resigning from Dagenham, is this an omen or a nightmare? The support Hornchurch has received this year will dwindle and fade if Hill did become Hornchurch Manager.

We need an experienced and talented Manager to take over where George has brought the team to. Not a Garry Hill whose reputation and current failure would ruin Hornchurch's reputation as an up and coming professional football team.

A word of advice from a dedicated band of supporters- Why not make George an offer he couldn't refuse to stay at Hornchurch, give him the money to build his own squad, and lets see Hornchurch win the League next year.

As for Garry Hill, he's best to stick at what he's good at.......not Hornchurch.

Thanks George, you made our year.

Hornchurch supporters were happy with what they'd got. Why bring in Hill? Does the Club not want any supporters? Who would respect his decisions as a Manager here? Get real..he needs to stick to his day job....

I'll tell you one last time footiefan...whoever you are you know little of our football club or its recent history...we have the largest budget in non league football and have under achieved in my opinion in the league this year...

the cup runs were great and georgie will always be a hero in that respect....

you are entitled to any opinion on that and other football related matters.....

what you are not entitled to do in my opinion is start a slagging off episode at this time..(or ever come to that)...and in case you hadn't noticed my opinion does count...

we will advertise for a new manager in due course through the NLP ...probably starting this Sunday...we shall see who the candidates are and review it from there....a decision on the new manager will be made before pre season....

We shall all miss Georgie thats for sure but we must also move on......

as for supporters...well we seem to have done okay in that respect dont we...no doubt we shall continue along those lines....

please abide by my comments footiefan...express your opinions by all means and speculate about new managers if you must....but anymore mischief or snide comments aimed at the club and your outta here....

Boll*cks pal, I'm a Hornchurch supporter and I'm not happy with how much of this season has gone. Don't think you speak for the masses, because you don't. People respect George and like I have said a number of times, he is a true gent and very honest guy off the pitch. However, like I also said after the Hendon game, this club should have achieved much more than it did this season under George. As the Unc said, George had an open chequebook to bring in players as he pleased. Unfortunately, a number of those players weren't up. What’s more, the continuous team changes hasn't helped the situation one bit, I make it that we had at least 15 different strikers at this club this season, hardly a settled team! The final matter is the attitude and lack of passion and effort put in by the team on more than a few occasions this season. How many times has the team looked completely disinterested? I accept some game we were very good, Darlo, Trannie, Stevenage, to name a few. Why couldn't we get the same level of passion for the other games though, or even a little bit of passion???

So, Urchins Number One, spokesperson of the Urchins Supporters club, that’s what I and I know for a fact a number of other Urchins think. I doubt you're even a fan anyway.

And as for no one wanting Hill, fecking hell pal, your more clueless than I thought!!!!
