"A Rebel till I die !!! " ..... yes for some ....

Recommended Posts

I have heard it so many times and its been posted so many times ... looking at the postings over the last few days, has opened my eyes and has taught me some interesting lesson....

Some supporters are on true downers and beleive that it seams that Slough has a divine right to win all matches and gain promotion, they also are so quick to kick a dying dog when its down !

Yes all is not right in our camp, but also not in their own minds , because if they feel so strong then they would do something about it ??

Too right ??? In fact since listerning to utter crap for the last few years by those who know it all ! or they think they do ...

Its about time if they feel so strong that they hate everything about our club ....to walk away now...because one thing I will not , and with every ounce of feelings in my body will carry on

for the cause of my Town's team....

But can do without the ones who talk great ideas but never are the ones to put themselves forward when we need them.....

I don't want to hear any more excuses, if you want to do something about it....then do it !

But for one thing .... I will be a Rebel until I die !! and am willing to give my blood for it...unlike many who just moan about it...

Chris, you forgot to add, this is aimed at Gary in any one of your three identical posts.... (Other two have been removed as they were duplicate postings)

(OK OK, fishing rods are out, and bait has well and truly been taken)

Tell me what I can do then and I will do it. I financially contribute to the club, which in many respects is more important than attending the matches itself,

I thought the sponsorship deal which I helped to arrange at the start of the season kept this club alive this year, is that not enough?

The resurrection of and participation the sponsored walk 2002, 2003 & 2004 (£1,400 for the STSA, £1,600 for SLOF so far), is that not enough??

The Official Website Updates?

The Trust site?

The hours spent with Roy both in person and on the phone helping him with email and Internet?

What more do you want me to do and give up my personal time for this club for?

Does it really mean, just because I am not attending a few matches, that I am any less of a supporter?

Gary your wrong !!! It was not posted against you believe it or not !!

I Know how hard you work for the club and would no way class you in the "people" I am thinking of.... and contrary to those behind the goal I was talking more in general.....

"If the cap fits - then ware it" would be my reply to those who get upset with my comments and thoughts, as I am always being told everyone can voice their opion...

I have supported Slough for over 40 years this year and I am certainly not going to give up on them now.....This is the time for all good men/women to come to the aid of the club....

Who ever is in charge...

The club is bigger than anyone and that includes Deaner - You and Me....

But its our club what ever happens... that was my message......

So we must stop spreading the negative and do something about it.... ALL OF US !!!!

cheers ..........Chris

I'm sure we all agree with Chris that we will continue to support the Rebels, no matter who is in charge.

But we shouldn't lightly talking about trying to survive at present without Martyn Deaner.

We have average gates of 320. With around 30 league and cups games a year and at, say, £5 per entry, that produces annual gate income of £48,000. That would be swelled by shirt sponsorship and the occasional contribution from the Barmy Army, STST etc.

Over half of the total would go to W&E for Stag Meadow. This doesn't leave much for day-to-day running of the club, training facilities, not to mention players' wages.

Let's hope we have a new stadium soon!

Having said that, some teams seem to exist with hardly any crowds at all - and thus little income.

Anyone know how they do it?

i don't want to sound the one dissenting voice, but a playing squad of 25 players on an average of £50 a week would cost approx. £50,000 a year, plus management, physio's coaches, bar staff, tea bar staff, plus grounds costs, plus electrics, plus water, plus stewards, plus a lot of other things which i can't remember off the top of my head. can we as a trust really say we could run the club without Deaner? I see him as a necessary evil in order to keep surviving unless there are a lot of people who do want a club in the town and are just hiding it

The STST is a great idea, but if it was to take control then it wouldn't be able to afford the likes of Steve Daly, Ian Hodges, Glen Harris and Ryan Spencer, one possible but not all 3, let alone what Liam has stated.

Deaner isn't the most convincing chairman, but he has put a lot of Money into this club to keep it afloat, which is what everyone seems to be forgetting.

Then again, if these so called Fans dont attend anymore games this year it just shows how loyal and real they are, it is so easy to criticise, but its even easier to walk away.

If we were to finish top 6 then all minds would be reversed......

Just out of interest given that we get an average of 320 fans which individuals were your general comments aimed at Chris? Presumably you must know names and faces?

Just intrigued that is all......

Watching from afar and visiting lots of other ryman clubs this season, i still think the club is well run all things considering with loads of people helping out - lets just put all differences aside till the end of the season until we see how it all pans out.

But we can all really help with promotion by really getting behind the team tomorrow against Leatherhead - we know we've got amazing vocal away support when we put our gobs (and rattles) to it.

I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow as it will be my first game in a couple of weeks. Is Leatherhead generally easy to get to? I'm assuming most will use the M25. What I'm getting at, is that I hope the usual compliment of 100 ish and many more make the journey and make some noise.

Make positive noise as well lads. It's been well documented that I won't be there as I am otherwise engaged on Saturday, but get behind them even when things aren't going well.

One of our bad habits this season has been to get on certain players and the teams backs when we're either under pressure (even if we're winning), a player has a bad touch or bad pass (Boot is at the top of the critics list for everything he does wrong) or things generally aren't going our way.

Get the Dulwich away, Stortford away, Welling away level of positive support going and get behind the team throughout the match. Bite your tongue instead of criticising and cheer them on regardless. They'll be more inclined to give their all surely??

Give them a cheer for me.

So you were having a go at me then? I am getting confused by all this subtlety. Would it not be easier if everybody spoke their minds like, well, me?

This season I have attended all but one match. I buy a programme and two golden goals at every home game (when we don't sell out) and I have contributed £115 to the Barmy Army sponsorship fund. The Barmy Army who has I believe put up over £1,000 this season alone. I am standing for election to the trust and I am doing the sponsored walk. That is how I support my team.

When they come on to the pitch yes they are my team but I judge them on performance. I can see beyond the shirt they are wearing and look at the quality of football. Sometimes it has been great and I love it other times it has not been and I can't understand it.

I think it is laughable that I can be castigated for criticising the team yet you can come on here and have sly digs at supporters. And this post stands even if you were not "thinking" of me.

Perhaps the bigger problem is that in a large town of what 70,000 people we get average attendances of 300-ish. Perhaps it is the so called football supporters who wander the streets on a saturday afternoon wearing their Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd or Chelsea kits you should be having a go at. Not those who turn up to watch slough.

I think everyone who has ever turned up to a Slough game is a legend just for looking beyond the big leagues and getting out to see their local team. And that applies if they have come once or have been to every game for fifty years.

I think what he is saying, Martin, is to the probably 250+ of the 320 who only "support" regularly, i.e buy a ticket or season ticket, a programme, a golden goal ticket, maybe sponsor a walker and cheer the team,(like me and many others!), plus the probable 1000 - 1500 who may come along once or twice a season or to big cup games,is "SOD OFF, we don't want you or your support and you're not welcome any more, and certainly you have no right to post your views on this forum".

Strange way to encourage more support - but if that's what you want, fine. Why not send the message to the Slough Observer and Express to make sure everybody knows they aren't needed any more, because they may not read this forum? Does the Club support this view?

Anyway it has been fun reading this forum and exchanging views - I wish the Club all the best and every success in the future.

It's a good point, and in actual fact the population of Slough is well over 105,000 I believe, maybe 110,000. So yes, crowds of 300 every week, even if we're playing at Windsor, is pretty lame. We could go into all kind of demographic statistics though. I think that those of us that do support the club should do so until the death, and we will be rewarded one day... hopefully ! A climb through the leagues would bring back the crowds, of that there is little doubt. In the Ryman Premier for example our average was probably about 500-600 with bigger games attracting 800; and in the Conference possibly 800-1,500. Unfortunately fans who may have been regulars or casual observers in the Conference days are not coming back as frequently, which is a great shame.
